Three wins for Hawks
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The
Exeter Hawks used
offence, defence and
goaltending to win
three straight games
last week with victories
over Belmont, West
Lorne and Mt. Brydges.
Exeter coach Dale
Howard was especially
pleased with the 7-1
victory Friday night
over the Lakers.
"They're always high
scoring, and we held
them off to one...and 1-
0, we won a tight game
which we were giving
up earlier in the year.
They bore down and
got it done."
The Hawks were in
Belmont Oct. 19 and
came away with a 5-2
win.
After ending the first
period 1-1 on a goal by
Paul Denomme, Exeter
exploded for four goals
in the second with two
from Scott Davies and
singles from Justin
Young and Joe Nesbitt.
The Hawks went one
for seven with the man
advantage and gave up
one goal on six chances
for the Bombers.
Jordan Thomson
picked up his first win
in goal for the Hawks
with Josh Liddle getting
a pair of assists, and
singles from Darcy
McCutcheon, Troy
Elders, Davies, Greg
Thompson and Ryan
Knee.
Friday night against
the visiting West Lorne
Lakers, the Hawks
were down a goal in
the first minute of play
but it was all Exeter
after that.
A pair of shorthanded
goals before the period
was over from Young
and Craig Masse put
the Hawks ahead and
Dan Moir's goal in the
dying seconds of the
period gave Exeter a 3-
1 lead.5r
The Hawks continued
to press the visitors in
the second resulting in
two goals from Liddle
with Ryan Abrams cap-
ping the Hawk's scor-
ing in the third for the
7-1 win.
Justin Hayter picked
up the win in net with
Tony Regier and
Denomme each collect-
ing two assists with sin-
gles from Nesbitt,
Davies and Knee.
The Hawks were
scoreless with the man
advantage with the
Lakers unable to take
advantage of their two
powerplay chances.
It was a different type
of game Sunday night
in Mt. Brydges with a
goaltending duel for
two and a half periods
between Hayter and
Brendan Keddy.
Hayter was sharp in
the first period as the
Hawks were outshot
17-12.
"The first period was
all I-Iayter," said
Howard. "We came out
kind of flat and he held
us in."
Young finally broke
the scoreless game at
13:39 of the third for
the only goal the
Hawks needed, with an
assist from Davies.
Howard said he feels
the team has turned
the corner.
"These guys expect to
win every game...if you
outwork your oppo-
nents, the bounces will
start coming your way
sooner or later. and
they have."
The Hawks are back
at home for a stretch of
five games starting
with two this weekend.
