"Amazing Race" set to go on Saturday
HURON — If you haven't signed up to compete in
Huron United Way's fundraising Amazing Race, consid-
er yourself eliminated.
Twenty-five teams have already begun to strategize
for race day Saturday while the waiting list continues to
grow.
"These teams have completed the first task, which
was to pledge $500 toward United Way before qualify-
ing for the race. Teams from all points of the county and
beyond have gathered support and are ready for what-
ever tasks and challenges we throw at them on race
day," says Huron United Way executive director Kim
Payne.
Armed with just a few supplies, a couple dollars and
meagre rations, contestants will head out at 7 a.m.
(from a place yet to be revealed) in competition that
mimics CBS's popular "Amazing Race." Participants will
puzzle their way from one destination to the next, com-
pleting tasks that rely on brain or brawn, and receiving
clues to carry onward. Along the way, stragglers will be
eliminated. The top team will receive a $1,500 prize.
The Huron United Way is still looking for people to
volunteer a few hours at any one of a number of top-
secret destinations in the county.
"There are a lot of people who realize the only way to
catch any of the action is to be there for the 7 a.m. race
start, or to volunteer at one of the task sites," said
Payne.
In the televised "Amazing Race," competitors race
around the world, completing tasks and traversing
routes in the face of numerous challenges, including
transportation, money and language.
To volunteer or for more information, phone 524-
7900.
