We were pleased to have Zone Commander Shirley Chalmers and her deputy Stewart Taylor attend the meeting for their annual visit. A motion was passed to donate $100 towards the expenses incurred from leaf pick-up. Try to be an Early Bird and get your dues paid before Nov. 30. Early Bird dues are $35 before Nov. 30. After Nov. 30 dues go up to $40. It was decided to hold our annual door-to-door Poppy Drive on Tues., Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Please leave a porch light on for our canvassers. Sun., Nov. 6 will be theRemembrance Day parade and church service, it will be held this year at Carmel Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. On Nov. 11 we will hold our annual Remembrance Day banquet. The guest speaker will be David Beer, RCMP Chief Superintendent, who is currently Director General of International Policing Services in Ottawa. He has also served with foreign missions in Iraq, Haiti, and Central African Republic. Tickets are $12 and may be obtained from the Branch, Legion members, or call Lillian Beer at 262-2722. At Carmel Presbyterian Church Joyce Pepper was the organist with Rev. Gwen Brown as the guest minister. Gwen also conducted the Communion Service. Robert Bell, Al Hoggarth and Harry Moir assisted with Communion. The offering was received by Al Hoggarth and Harry Smith. Rev Gwen's message was "Who's is Who's". Psalm 99 and readings from Thessalonians and Matthew were heard. The service closed with Benediction. Remembrance Day service will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church on Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. Bev Moir hosted an Alzheimer Coffee Hour at her home recently. Several ladies enjoyed a social time and Bev's special snacks. At Hensall United Church the service began with an organ prelude, welcome, and passing of the peace. The organist was Carol Carter. Kay Mock lit the Christ Candle and also was the reader. John and Veronica Thomson were the greeters with Lucielle Beer and Linda Firman looking after the ushering duties. Readings were heard from Psalm 46, Psalm 17, and from Luke 4:1-15. Rev Haggerman's message was "Strength Through God". There was a special children's time with story and song. Artemysia Fragiskatos was the nursery aide. The service closed with commissioning, benedic- tion, and choral amen. The Friendship Circle will be packing used clothing for those in need in Huron County on Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m. Bring donations to marked boxes in the west entrance way. Taste of Huron set for November GRAND BEND — The fourth annual A Taste of Huron in Black and White fundraiser is fast approaching. The event, held this year at Oakwood Inn Nov. 4 with a five - course gourmet meal, a silent auc- tion and entertainment, raises money for Big Brothers Big Sisters South Huron. Local chefs participating in this year's Taste of Huron include McKenna Lavis of Exeter's Bistro 437, Barbara Bloch -Gower of Grand Bend's Catering by Barbara, Steven Bland of Bayfield's The Red Pump and Kate Craig of Grand Bend's The Lakeview Cafe. Things kick off at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers, a cash bar and the silent auction. At 7:30 p.m., the five course served dinner begins. Zurich medical service meeting ZURICH — A meeting will be held Oct. 20 at 8:30 p.m. to dis- cuss a possible solution to med- ical service in Zurich. at the Bluewater Complex. Dr. Michael Hurley has pro- posed that he is willing to pro- vide five day a week doctor's office service in Zurich if the community provides the office facility. The meeting will include infor- mation; an opportunity to ask questions and to make a dona- tion. Receipts for tax purposes will be issued by the Municipality of Bluewater. The main course includes grilled pork tenderloin with apple cider, maple and dijon glaze; a ballotine of chicken legs stuffed with country sausage and fennel stuffing; mashed Yukon golds and parsnips with caramelized shallots; a saute of mixed greens; and a root veg- etable medley. Entertainment is provided by mentalist Dr. Normal Barlow. Jazz band Change For A Quarter will provide the music, while there will also be raffles and door prizes. All food products and labour including chefs, cooks, waiters, waitresses, dishwashers, bar- tenders, decorating and clean-up crews and printed materials have been donated for the event. Other products and services have been provided at a discount meaning almost 100 per cent of the dona- tions go towards Big Brothers Big Sisters programs, events and sup- plies.
