President Charles Reid conducted the Meeting. The Zone Rally is Thurs., Oct. 20. Members are to meet at Margaret Hayters at 10:15 to arrange trans- portation. Registration is at 11 a.m. and lunch is at 12 noon. They hope to have their Christmas dinner on Tues., Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. The November meeting will be on Tues., Nov.8 at 8 p.m. High euchre winners were Elmer Hayter and Norene Hayter while consolation winners were Hugh McBride and Mariann Colclough. Church was in Goshen with the Celebration of Goshen anniversary. Rev Jan Fradette was guest min- ister from Holmesville-Wesley Willis United Church. Pastor Elly Van Bergen was at Holmesville. An "Amazing Grace" duet by Tony Stauttener and Grant Ellison from the Harbouraires Choir was a won- derful gift of music. Varna Goshen choir's gift of music was "The Name Of Jesus". Rev. Jan Fradette was on "Salvation and Taxes". Following the prayers of the people Grant Ellison sang a solo "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". BM Taylor is once again selling Amaryllis bulbs for Huntingtons for $12 each. They make Christmas gifts. YARN cooking with memories BY DEBBY WAGLER WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING BACK TO BAKING IN THE FALL I AM REMINDED OF SOME OF THE TRADITIONAL MEALS MY MOTHER, NORIENE CHESTER, MADE WHEN WE WERE GROWING UP. THERE ARE STILL A FEW RECIPES I HAVE NOT PUT IN THE PAPER THAT WERE STAPLES AT HOME. ONE SUCH RECIPE IS THAT OF CORNED BEEF TARTS. MANY PEOPLE MIGHT NOT HAVE EVER EVEN TRIED CORNED BEEF. IT COMES IN A CAN AND WHEN YOU OPEN IT YOU MASH IT WITH A FORK BEFORE USING IT. THIS RECIPE HAS GREAT FLAVOR AND IS EASY TO ASSEMBLE. CORNED BEEF TARTS Prepare unbaked tart shells by either buying them or making your own in muffin cups with your favorite pastry. Set aside. Saute together the following: 2 tbsp butter 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1 rib of chopped celery 1/2 green pepper chopped fine Slowly add the next three ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes. 2 tbsp flour I-1/4 cup cooked corn beef 1-1 /2cups canned tomatoes Fill the tart shells with the filling and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. This is featuring the Elvis Gospel Group, Laura Elligsen, The Andrews Rose Quartet, the Gibson Family, Sherry and Murray McCall and the Merry Makers. Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. is the Fall Rally at Exeter United Church with speaker Bernice Santor. Oct. 25 is the first night for the Varna crokinole club to meet at the Varna United Church at 8 p.m. First night please bring something for potluck lunch, croki- nole boards and tables please. Oct. 26, Goshen church is having its Fall Supper with two sittings at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. On Oct. 29, there will be a Bed -Race Kick off event for the Bluewater Nursing Home "Rest Well" cam- paign. Churches are welcome to participate and this will be held from 3-5 p.m. in the parking lot at the Zurich Mennonite Church . Oct. 29, in the evening from 7 -10 p.m. there will be a Family Halloween party at the Stanley Complex. Cost will be $15 per family and adult accompaniment is required. Please bring cookies and or squares. There will be judging for decorated pumpkins, hot- dogs, prizes, spooky fun and also a costume parade.
