Tickets are on sale for the Oct. 26 Goshen fall supper

VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA — Varna U.C.W. met last Thursday evening and Carol Simons opened the
meeting with a thankful prayer and a warm welcome. Treasurer Margaret Hayter
reported the U.C.W. cookbooks are still selling. Thank yous were read from Joanne
Walper and the Vacation Bible School.
The Sunday School raised over $330 from serving hot dogs after church on Sun.,
Oct. 2 for the Katrina Relief Fund. The UCW will be covering the costs of the hot dogs.
Sunday School teachers are also needed.
The UCW will be donating a fruit basket for the Splash and Dinner Auction to be
held for Camp Menesetung on Oct. 15.
Wed., Oct. 12 a carload of ladies will be attending the thankoffering in Bayfield with
Rev. Alex McGillivary speaking of the Habitat for Humanity project in Clinton.
The Fall Rally is Oct. 24 at the Exeter United Church with registration to begin at
6:30 pm. If any ladies are wishing to attend please give Carol Simons a call. Bernice
Santor is guest speaker speaking on "Some Women Amaze Us".
Carol Simons led the devotion on "All The Things We Are Thankful For" followed by
prayer. Shirley Hill read the scripture reading and "You Pay as Your Money" reading.
Carol Simons read her speech on friendship.
Following the devotion each woman made their own thanksgiving arrangement by
arranging flowers in the pumpkin which they were all thankful for. Lunch and fellow-
ship were enjoyed. Next meeting to be Nov. 3 and the Christmas meeting and dinner
will be November 24.
On Oct. 2, Leisa and Blaine Stephenson went on the `Walk for the Cure' for the
Stephenson Steps. They walked in the Exeter area at Morrison Dam on that beautiful
Sunday. They raised $635 and would like to thank their supporters.
Oct. 25 will be the first week of crokinole to be held in the Varna United Church at 8
p.m. There will be a potluck lunch to follow. Please feel free to call me at 233-7443 if
you would like to try your finger at crokinole.
Goshen Fall Supper tickets are being sold for Oct. 26 with sittings to be 5:00 and
6:30 p.m. Get yours now.
Thanksgiving worship was held in Varna on Sunday with Pastor Elly Van Bergen
officiating. The children's time was on "What Are Blessings" and Pastor Elly's mes-
sage was "Thanksgiving S.E.E.D. Cultivating A More Thankful Approach".
Sun., Oct. 16 church will be in Goshen with the celebration of Goshen anniversary.
Guest minister will be Rev. Jan Fradett from Holmesville-Wesley Willis United Church.
Pastor Elly will be in Holmesville.
