Thank you to everyone for your presence and support
Dear Editor:
I am the Rector of
Trivitt Memorial
Anglican Church in
Exeter. I would like to
start by thanking the
whole community of
South Huron for your
participation at the
Community
Thanksgiving
Celebration which
took place on October
first and second of
this year.
Whether you
had a dis-
play in the
showcase of
community
organizations or
an act on stage you
helped to truly make
this event a real com-
munity celebration.
Whether you came for
the face painting, the
gigantic dragon slide
or simply to check
things out, you helped
to celebrate and give
thanks to God for all
the gifts our commu-
nity has been blessed
with. And that is
exactly what we did.
The second day of
the festivities took a
bit of a turn with a
special worship ser-
vice including a com-
munity choir support-
ed by an orchestra
singing Mozart's
Sparrow Mass. What
a joyful sight it was to
see our big old church
filled to capacity!
What a joyful sound it
was to hear the voices
of our community
unite in song and
prayer. What a joyful
opportunity it was for
the people of God to
gather and give
thanks to God for all
that we have been
blessed with.
The dinner following
the worship service
was Trivitt Memorial's
opportunity to make
visible our thankful-
ness for the gift we
have received from
God through the gen-
erosity of the late
Mildred Grimes.

All of these gifts that
were presented at the
dinner are Trivitt's
response to the gift of
God's love in our lives
together. We have
been blessed with an
amazing gift in the
Mildred Grimes
Bequest and we con-
tinue to pray for
strength and guidance
to use that gift for the
building up of God's
kingdom here in this
community and
beyond.
The Community
Thanksgiving
Celebration was a
complete success and
on behalf of Trivitt
Memorial I thank you
for your presence and
support.
But who was
Mildred Grimes? That
is the question a num-
ber of people wanted
to know following the
dinner. The truth is
we did a great job rec-
ognizing the source of
the gift which is God.
We did a good job at
making visible the
thankfulness that we
at Trivitt have in our
hearts for receiving
this gift. But we didn't
do a good job in let-
ting you know who
Mildred Grimes was
and how she came to
be associated with our
church.
This was an over-
sight by me the Rector
of Trivitt Memorial. I
was responsible for
putting together the
order of speeches for
the dinner and simply
didn't include any
opportunity to present
to you the community
who Mildred Grimes
was. For that I offer
my sincere apologies
and give thanks that I
am part of a commu-
nity that is full of for-
giveness and grace.
Mildred was born in
Toronto. She was the
youngest child in her
family. She was a
beautiful woman with
jet black hair and
striking blue eyes. She
had a great sense of
humour, was always
polite but at the same
time was a shrewd
businesswoman.
Mildred had been
married to Matthew
who was her best
friend. They enjoyed
traveling and explor-
ing the world togeth-
er. Following her hus-
band's death and fol-
lowing a few years of
encouragement from
family members
Mildred moved to the
Exeter area. Those
family members who
were instrumental in
convincing Mildred
not only to move to
Exeter but to become
a member at Trivitt
Memorial include: the

At the Community
Thanksgiving
Celebration we did a
great job of giving
thanks to God but we
did a poor job of rec-
ognizing some of the
people who God
worked through to
make all this possible.
For that oversight I
apologize to the fami-
ly, to the people of
Trivitt Memorial and
to the community of
South Huron but I
rejoice and give

had to celebrate and
give thanks for all that
