More funds for Katrina

Annual fall supper planned for Oct. 26

VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA — The Stan Lee Club will meet on Tues., Oct.
11 at 8 p.m. Please take note of the date change for this
meeting.
Annniversary was celebrated at the Varna Church on
Sunday. Pastor Elly Van Bergen officiated. The church
was beautifully decorated by Deb Rathwell, Shirley Hill,
Carol and George Simons and Terri and Madison
Louch.
Thanks to Sandra Turner, Ruth Johnston, Eleanor
McAsh, Margaret Hayter, Sjoujke Steenbeek and Elly
Van Bergen for sewing and quilting the 23rd Psalm
banner.
Guest Soloist Laura Elligsen from Walton shared her
gift of music. Following the Prayers of Thanksgiving
Wayne Miners sang the Lord's Prayer. Heather Laurie
Dawe played the piano during the receiving of the
offering.
Following the service the Sunday School children
served hotdogs with proceeds for Katrina relief efforts.
The Varna U.C.W. meet Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. at the
church. Members are invited to Bayfield Thankoffering
with guest speaker Rev. Alex McGilllary speaking about
the Habitat for Humanity Project in Clinton on Oct. 12.
On Oct. 15 there will be a dinner auction to benefit
Camp Menesetung at the Saltford Valley Hall. Plan to
attend this fun evening of good food, entertainment,
door prizes and fun.
Sun., Oct. 16 will be Goshen Anniversary in Goshen
church with guest minister Rev. Jan Fradett from
Holmesville United Church. Pastor Elly Van Bergen will
be in Holmesville.
Goshen church will be having their annual fall supper
on Oct. 26 with 5 and 6:30 sittings. Get your tickets.
POLICE BRIEF
Female charged
with theft
EXETER — Huron OPP were contacted by a grocery
business in Exeter on Sept. 9 over an internal theft.
The owner and manager of the business told an officer
that an employee had taken property from the business
the previous day without paying for the items. As a
result of the investigation the stolen property was
recovered and a 19 -year-old from Bluewater has been
charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of proba-
tion. She will attend court in Exeter on Oct. 27.

The Teens group's next meeting will be on Nov.6 at
1:30. They will be leaving from Varna United Church to
go shopping for the Christmas shoe boxes for the
Samaritans of International Relief Program.
Congratulations to Amanda Elliott (daughter of Ralph
and Candace). She was married to Andy Bos on Sat.,
Oct. 1 in the Clinton Legion. Pastor Elly Van Bergen
officiated at the ceremony. The happy couple are resid-
ing in Clinton. Friends and neighbours from the Varna
area attended the wedding.
With October coming upon us, it is time to think
about crokinole . The crokinole club holds its first regu-
lar night of play on Tues., Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. in the
Varna church. Anyone wanting to try their finger at it
please call me at 233-7443 as soon as possible.
