Lillus Riddell had two dinner guests from South Africa on Sat., Sept. 24 who were their tour guides when a group from Granton had a trip to Africa in February. Sympathy from the Granton community to Michael Jones whose grandfather Frederick Jones, 95, died in London on Fri., Sept. 23. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery London Mon., Sept. 26. At the Granton Wesley United Church on Sun., Sept. 25, Pastor Paul Vollick led the service. The message was entitled "Because I said so" and the lessons were from Matthew 21 and Philippians 2. Michelle McBurney lit the Christ Candle. The ministry of music was Psalm 100. The children's hymn was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Dalice Sim celebrated the Holy Support the walk for breast cancer By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA — Church wor- ship was in Goshen on Sun., Sept. 25 and Sun., Oct. 2 Worship service will be in Varna celebrating Varna anniversary. Guest soloist will be Laura Elligsen from Walton. Following the service there will be a Sunday School hot dog lunch with proceeds going to the Katrina Relief Efforts. On Oct. 2 the Stephensons Steips will be walking for breast cancer. To support with pledges please contact Deb Rathwell or Leisa Stephenson. Thurs., Oct. 6 Varna United Church Women (UCW) will meet. UCW are invited to Bayfield Thankoffering with guest speaker Rev. Alex McGillary speaking on Habitat for Humanity project in Clinton on Oct. 12. Clandeboye WI Members and friends of Clandeboye Women's Institute (WI) met at Gail Lamb's home on Wed., Sept. 14 which is located near Clandeboye and is better known as Hearthstone Farm. President Betty McIntyre led the meeting in the spa- cious lounge attached to the horse arena. Lamb then joined the group and gave some interesting statistics on the economic impact of the horse industry in Ontario. She also showed a video of a horse trained in dres- sage performing at the Olympics in Athens. There are 23 horses in stalls at Hearthstone Farm that are mainly trained GRANTOR NEWS for dressage. The horses are fed four times a day and each consumes two- thirds of a bale of hay each day. Some of the group had a ride in a cart drawn by an 11 -year-old pony named Magic, in the horse arena. Later, in the house Marilyn Dixon and Irene Lynn served refreshments, assisted by hostess Lamb. It was truly a fantastic experience to visit Hearthstone Farm.
