GODERICH — The
South Huron Panthers
Field Hockey team
started their regular
season Sept. 19 in
Goderich, under less
than ideal field condi-
tions.
Their first game was
against the locals and
both teams displayed
nervous tension and
could not find any scor-
ing opportunities.
The game ended in a
0-0 tie.
In the second game,
the Panthers came out
strong and easily
defeated St. Annes.
The first
half saw no
goals pro-
duced, but
one minute
into the sec-
ond half saw
rookie Staci
Miller score
her first
Huron -Perth
goal.
It was
assisted by
Kelly Cronyn,
Gregus and
Ferguson.
Ten minutes later,
Miller scored again on a
pass by Cronyn.
At the mid point of the
half, rookie Lindsay
Hayter scored assisted
by Ferguson and
Cronyn.
Miller scored her hat
trick 20 minutes into
the half with Hayter
assisting.
One minute later,
Miller scored her
fourth, assisted by
Ferguson to make it a
memorable debut for
her and to bring the
final score to 5-0.
On Sept. 21, the team
travelled to Mitchell
where they played St.
Marys and defeated
them 3-0.
Kelly Cronyn opened
the scoring after 10
minutes on a solo effort.
At 28 minutes she
added another from a
great solo effort.
Five minutes into the
second half, Staci Miller
scored, assisted by
Cronyn and Ferguson.
In the second game of
the day, Mitchell provid-
ed the opposition, but
the Panthers were on a
roll as they defeated
them 4-0.
Kelly Cronyn opened
the scoring from a
penalty corner taken by
Sandra Gregus.
The score remained 1-
0 at the half.
Eight minutes into the
second, Abbey Oke
scored,
assisted by
Janita Pfaff.

wrapped up
the scoring
five minutes
later assisted
by Pfaff.
Kaitlin Hakvoort and
Michell Boere recorded
the shutouts.
The team have no
more Huron -Perth
games scheduled for
two weeks.
On Saturday, the team
went to the Saint Johns
Kilmarnock Invitational
and were severely test-
ed.
In their first game,
they played Notre Dame
from Burlington and
were defeated 2-0, but
the score flattered the
"fighting irish".
In the second game,
SJK provided the oppo-
sition and the final
score was a 0-0 tie.
In the final game,
Waterloo -Oxford defeat-
ed the Panthers 1-0.
Although the results
were disappointing, the
team played with a lot
of heart and the defen-
sive four and the
goalies were superb.
In the second game
of the day, Mitchell
provided the
opposition, but the
Panthers were on a
roll as they defeated
them 4-0.
