Brydges Bulldogs. New to the Hawks this year are Jordan Thomson, Mike MacLean, Chad Snell, Ryan Abrams, Ryan Knee, Jeff Ackersville, Craig Masse, Greg Thompson, Troy Elder and affiliate players Brent Johns and Scott Muirhead. Returning to the Hawks this year are Justin Hayter, Darcy McCutcheon, Scott Davies, Joe Nesbitt, Tim Bilcke, Jason Stuckless, Dan Moir, Jamie Wolfe, Jeff Smale, Tony Regier, Paul Denomme and Josh Liddle. Friday night in Mitchell, Exeter was first on the board with a goal just 11 sec- onds into the first period with Ryan Knee made it 1-0. Mitchell responded to tie it before Liddle collect- ed his first with a power play marker, but the home side replied just 20 seconds later for a 2- 2 score going into the second. Tony Regier again put Exeter ahead three minutes into the period Scott Davies but Mitchell came back again with two goals before the period was over for a 4-3 lead. And after a scoreless third period, Exeter came out on the short end of the 4-3 finish. Picking up assists in the loss were Bilcke, Moir, Denomme and MacLean. But it was a different story Sunday night as the Hawks jumped on the Bulldogs early Troy with four goals in the first period on the way to the 6-1 win. Davies put the Hawks on the board at 7:52 before the power play unit went to work, firing three goals in two min- utes. Thompson made it 2-0 with an unassisted effort before Jeff Smale and Denomme finished the first period scoring. The Bulldogs got on the board midway through the second period but it was all they would get against Hayter. Moir restored the four goal lead with a shorthanded marker before the period was over and Davies added his sec- ond of the game Elder to cap the scor- ing in the third on another powerplay. "There wasn't a single guy took a shift off," said Howard. Although the decision for an underage player came down to two or three players, accord- ing to Howard, with scoring during training camp spread evenly through- out the team, Elder was picked because "we figured we could probably use his work along the boards. He offered that a little bit more over the other guys...it was the toughest decision I've made in 20 years. Last year would have been simple. We would have had three of them 13 season deservedly." Wearing the 'C' on his jersey again this season will be Davies since Howard said he didn't want to make many changes in the organi- zation. Ryan Knee "John (Rasenberg) ran a first class organization and to go and change things would be the most foolish thing I could do," said Howard. The Hawks will be in Belmont Oct. 1 at 7:45 p.m. and visit Lambeth Oct. 2 at 7:45 p.m. Lucan will be town Oct. 7 to face the Hawks at 8:30 p.m. 2-1 loss for Exeter Fury EXETER — The Exeter Fury suffered a disap- pointing loss Friday night in Delhi, losing 2-1 to the last place Royals. The loss prevents the Fury from reaching their goal of a .500 winning percentage for the season. The game started well for Exeter as the visitors kept the majority of the play in Delhi's end of the field. Delhi, however, scored on its first shot about 15 minutes into the game. Fury keeper Joe Forrester, who was mak- ing his first appearance in net since 1998, had no chance on the play Shortly afterward, Delhi fired a shot from a bad angle that found its way under Forrester to give the home team a surpris- ing 2-0 lead. Ryan Carroll was unable to convert the direct kick as the Delhi keeper made a big diving stop to pre- serve the shutout at half- time. Ryan Ralph headed into the net for the Fury to start the second half and was called upon to make a couple of saves to keep his team in the game. Exeter struggled to com- plete an offensive rush. Many times they were able to gain the offensive end only to have the rush end with a turnover and without a shot on goal. With time running out the Fury were awarded another penalty shot and Carroll stepped up and fired the shot past the div- ing keeper. The Fury ran out of time as they pressed for the equalizer. "We didn't pass the ball well tonight," team spokesman Jason McFalls said. "Many times we held onto the ball too long resulting in turnovers. we need to let the ball do the work for us," McFalls added.
