Here's a list from the Canadian National Advisory Committee on Immunization: Healthy children from 6-23 months and household contacts of those under two years of age; pregnant women (the vaccine is safe in all trimesters of pregnancy); healthcare workers... to help protect the people they care for. As well, all people over 65 and those of any age who have a chronic disease (cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc.). This shot is available to all Ontario residents at no charge. Leakage of urine due to sneezing, laughing or lifting (called stress incontinence) can be a problem as we age. One good suggestion to avoid this during a cough or sneeze is to cross your legs. This helps the pelvic muscles and sphincters to keep the urine in the bladder. If you have medication in your home that is no longer needed, bring them to your pharmacy for safe disposal. Most pharmacies have access to medical waste services whose personnel will incinerate the medications. Incineration is the best and safest method to dispose of medications and protect our environment. Depression could be due to thyroid problems. Up to 20% of chronic depression can result from an underactive thyroid. If you experience changes in moods you can't explain, check with your doctor to rule out thyroid causes. Huron Apothecary Ltd.
