What's happening in Grand Bend
Partners in Learning: A guide for course partici-
pants Learning in Study Groups.
The ultimate aim of participating in a course is
to stimulate, explore and share what has been
learned. The intention of Partners in Learning is to
provide a comfortable environment for its mem-
bers to study subjects of interest in a format of
arss peer learning which functions as follows.
Each member of a study group is encouraged:
(a) To prepare, research and present at least one ses-
sion on the subject under study by the group.
(b) To engage in discussion of the subject by sharing
information and ideas by other group members.
Course development: Courses are developed by a cur-
riculum committee, the number of participants in a
course may vary from a minimum of 10 to a maximum
of 20. Participants meet weekly for two hours over a 10 -
week period. Courses will be offered during the fall and
winter terms.
Moderator: Each weekly session is organized by the
course moderator in consultation with participants.
Course moderators are members volunteering their ser-
vices. A moderator may find it necessary to
includefmsert a `reflection' period to go over what has
been learned. A moderator is not excluded from partak-
ing in other courses.
Participants: The objective and the schedule of a
course are laid out at the start. A chart showing the
schedule of the course dates, the presenter's name and
the topic will allow everyone to know what is coming up
next.
It must be recognized that there will be varying
degrees of skill and experience among members in gath-
ering information, organizing a presentation and partici-
pating in discussion.
The moderator and group members should encourage
one another in the creation of a learning environment to
which all make contributions and from which all gain a
sense of accomplishment.
Bylaws of Partners in Learning are available on
request. For more information about fall courses phone
the moderator or contact 238-8025. Looking at Art mod-
erator Jack Winn 238-5377; The Choice is Yours moder-
ator Bill Metcalfe 238-5987; History of Our Area modera-
tor Reg Finkbeiner 294-6745.
