Exeter Community Supports Terry Fox Run

old sister Laura from Hensall finish the bike around
town.
ATerry Fox Run was held on Sunday at the
MCNaughton Park Trail in Exeter. Many participants
came out including from Ieft,Jim, Betty, Jeff, Jenni De
Block and Josh Kreller. It is Jeff's 10th anniversary for
being in remission. For about the past 8 years the De
Block family has taken part in the Terry Fox Run.
Below, from left Joshua, Kordula, baby Charlotte and
Niklas Juhnke from Shipka register for the trail
walk/run.The walk/run was anywhere between 2 to
10 kms.There was also the option of biking or
rollerblading around town.The event was between 2
and 4, everyone was welcome to come out.
Above,Arnie Spivey from Exeter ran 25 km/h. Spivey
ran 1 km for every year the Terry Fox run has taken
place. He is also training for the Chicago marathon
which is in a few weeks.

Free massages were rewarded to anyone participating in the walk/run. Bio -Connections can also be found in
Dashwood.

Terry Fox Run.Altogether 159 people participated,
raising $11,000 for the milestone year.There were 10
volunteers that helped out for this special day.
Elsewhere in Exeter, Hansen's Independent Grocer
raised $350 and Ilderton raised about $8,000 with
approximately 90 people taking part.According to
Organizer Paul Manders he is extremely pleased with
the turnout,"it is almost exactly what we made last
year and I'm very pleased with that" Over the past
25 years over $360 million has been raised world-
wide for innovative cancer research. Just last year
alone, almost $22 million was raised in schools, com-
munities and countries around the world. In Ontario
people from over 230 communities participate in
local runs.There has been significant progress made
over the years.The overall 5 -year survival rates
jumped from 43 per cent in 1979 to 64 per cent in
2000. Many cancers today have high survival rates and
are considered to be effectively controlled.
