Fun and Fitness starts the week at Queensway HENSALL - Fun & Fitness started the week off on Monday when resi- dents gathered in the sun - room for their exercise session. The exercise rou- tine is geared to maintain and increase flexibility with residents participat- ing to their level of ability. In the afternoon the Hensall Presbyterian women provided assis- tance and prizes for bingo. Breakfast group met Tuesday morning to enjoy their eggs made to order, crispy bacon & toast along with lots of piping hot cof- fee. Volunteer Lillian Beer assisted with the program. Pastor Ann Krueger of Zurich Lutheran Church led Worship Service for residents on Tuesday and also served Communion to all those wishing to receive it. Euchre facilitated by vol- unteer Marg Cole drew a good crowd of players Wednesday afternoon with some very close games. Time passes quickly during the after- noon card games. Thursday morning the local and weekly papers were perused at the coffee and current events pro- gram. Father Francis of St. Boniface in Zurich was in to see Catholic residents on Thursday assisted by volunteer Mariette Bilcke. In the afternoon the scent of fresh baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies wafted down the hallway as baking group did some sampling of their product. Marie Flynn provided some wonderful musical entertainment at Friendship friday in the retirement residence lounge Friday evening. She played piano and sang many old familiar tunes with residents singing along. Volunteer Edna Deitz assisted with the program. Pastor Elly Van Bergen gave the welcome, any joys, commercials or concerns. During the prayers of the people prayers were said for Barb Consitt, Joanne Walper and Marilyn Kalbfleisch. During the children's time, Sunday School chil- dren were presented with their seals and certifi- cates. Wed., Sept. 21 Janet and Mac Webster will be host- ing their annual Alzheimer Coffee Break at their home in Bayfield all day. So sometime throughout the day drop in and have a coffee and make a donation to Alzheimer's. Church will be in Goshen on Sun., Sept. 25. Tues., Sept. 27 the Huron Perth Presbytery meeting will be at the Wesley Willis United Church in Clinton. On Oct. 2 church will be in Varna celebrating the Varna anniversary. Following the service there will a hot dog lunch to raise funds for Katrina Relief. Come prepared to have a hot dog. The Stephenson Steps will be once again walking for Breast Cancer research on Oct. 2. To support with pledges see Deb Rathwell or Leisa Stephenson. Varna United Church Women (UCW) will meet Oct. 6. Harry Smith and Al Hoggarth received the offering. Tracey's mes- sage was "Is God Fair or Is Unfair?" HENSALL The service closed with benediction and choral amen. The service at Hensall United Church began with an organ prelude with Chuck Mallette playing the organ. Evelyn McAllister greeted everyone with Eric and Eleanor Mansfield looking after the ushering duties. The Clinton Public Hospital Foundation fundraising committee is planning a gala event on April 22, 2006 to celebrate 100 years of community service and to raise funds for neccessary equipment. Oct. 16 and guest minister will be Rev. Jan Fradette from Holmesville Wesley Willis United Church. There will be A Last Splash Dinner Auction to benefit Camp Menesetung at the Saltford Valley Hall Oct. 15 with dinner at 6:45 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. to view live and silent auction items. Glycemic Index is a measure of how certain foods affect your blood sugar. A number is assigned to each food. The lower the number the slower your body metabolizes the food and this produces less of an impact on blood sugar. For example, whole wheat bread had a lower glycemic index than white French bread. Heartburn can interfere with a good night's sleep. Those fizzy soda pop drinks can cause heartburn. The more you drink, the greater your chance of suffering from heartburn.
