Great Food -
Cold Beer!
r Capsule Comments
by Ernie Miatello
September is Arthritis Month. It bears
reminding that if you are arthritic and also on
anticoagulant drugs like warfarin, taking herbal
anti-inflammatory products like ginko or Devil's
Claw can have an effect on the coagulation
process. Be sure to tell your doctor you are
taking these products.
There was a time when we didn't mention websites in this column.
However, more and more people are getting connected to the web
and many websites can be useful and educational. If you have
arthritis or know someone with the disease, log onto
www.arthritis.ca It's a great site and you can even ask questions!
Glycemic Index is a measure of how certain foods affect your
blood sugar. A number is assigned to each food. The lower the
number the slower your body metabolizes the food and this
produces less of an impact on blood sugar. For example, whole
wheat bread had a lower glycemic index than white French bread.
Heartburn can interfere with a good night's sleep. Those fizzy soda
pop drinks can cause heartburn. The more you drink, the greater
your chance of suffering from heartburn. This risk seems to
increase with age.
There is so much research going on to find better and more
efficient medications for all medical problems. We do our best to
keep up-to-date on this research. If you have any questions about
a new drug you've heard about, give us a call. We'd be happy to
check it out for you.
