Mosquitoes at OBAs
EXETER — The Exeter
Mosquito baseball team
finished third in their
OBA tournament over
the Labour Day weekend
in Waterloo.
The first game Friday
night had the team
against Port Dover.
The game featured
many lead changes with
great defence, pitching
and timely hitting by
both sides.
The locals scored two
runs in the top of the
seventh and final inning
and held on for a 9-7 vic-
tory.
The second game had
Exeter playing Belle
River.
Exeter went ahead
early scoring three runs
in the bottom of the first.
Belle River got on the
board in the fourth to tie
the game 3-3 only to
have Exeter come back
to take the lead 5-3.
Belle River came back
to score two runs in the
sixth and five in the sev-
enth.
Exeter didn't give up
and scored three of their
own in the bottom of the
seventh.
With two outs and the
bases loaded Exeter was
unable to get the timely
hit it needed.
The loss put the team
up against Port Dover for
a second time.
The game was another
back and forth affair
with Exeter again com-
ing out on the good side
winning 6-4.
With three teams
remaining Exeter played
Wyoming Sunday morn-
ing with the winner to
face Belle River in the
inial.
Exeter scored three
runs in the top of the
first inning and appeared
to have the game in hand
with strong pitching and
defence.
Wyoming had other
plans as they scored
three runs in the bottom
of the fourth to tie the
game.
Exeter rebounded in
the top of the fifth with
one of their own to take
back the lead.
Wyoming responded
with a run in the bottom
of the fifth and two in the
bottom of the sixth with
a couple of seeing -eye
singles.
In the top of the sev-
enth the team loaded the
bases with two out.
But a Wyoming player
made a great play on a
hard hit line drive to end
the game, winning 6-4.
Wyoming went on to
beat Belle River 13-1 to
win the championship.
Although disappointed,
the team consisting of
Jacob Foxton, Colin
Gingerich, Cadyn
Lightfoot, Ryan Watson,
Justin Horner, Ty Bilcke,
Brandon Dinney, Mitchell
Vandergunst, Devon
Elliott, Grayson Homuth
and Bowen Davey had a
successful tournament
and year.
The coaching staff
thanks all the players
and parents for their
hard work and effort
throughout the year and
they should be proud of
their accomplishments.
