VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA — Worship ser-
vices resumed at Varna
United church on Sept. 11
for our annual Service of
Remembrance. This
year's volunteer efforts in
the wake of Hurricane
Katrina were compared to
the outflowing of compas-
sion for the 9/11 and the
tsunami tragedies.
Special prayers were
offered for all volunteers
including firefighters,
emergency service per-
sonnel and law enforce-
ment officers.
Pastor Van Bergen
spoke to the children
about Elysha Bleck, a
young girl from St.
Thomas who initiated a
door-to-door campaign to
raise money for those left
homeless by Katrina and
the flooding.
The children were chal-
lenged to come up with a
project of their own so
that they along with the
Lucan's first Family Fun Fest was Sept.7, organized by the Living Hope Church in
Lucan. The day included many activities, bringing out about 350 people. OPP Const.

Some people say
that 1 pig produces
more waste than
10 humans.
Now
that
stinks.
Recycle Look closely at the facts. The
average pig requires about 3.5 litres of water
a day. You and I use that much just washing
our hands. When it comes to waste, pigs
produce a combination of manure and water
that adds up to about 7 litres per day – with
100% recovered and reused as highly effective
natural fertilizer. You can't say that about
human waste that also includes everything
from wash water to household chemicals.
Today's hog farms combine science, practical
experience and common sense to reduce waste
and recycle absolutely everything possible,
especially manure. The truth is clear – and
anything less than that stinks.
