Thames Road committee meetings planned for September

THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT
THAMES ROAD — Mr. Dave Williams was in charge
of the 16th Sunday after Pentecost or Labour Day
Sunday service. Everyone sang the Introit and Williams
lit the Christ candle and welcomed everyone after which
everyone shook hands.
Williams gave the announcements and led in the Call
to Worship responsively. The gathering hymn "Open My
Eyes That I May See" was sung.
Williams gave the prayer of gathering and confession
and assurance of God's grace and mercy. The children's
hymn "Come Children Join To Sing" was sung and
Williams told the story from the Indian legend "The
Spirit of the Maze" which was very interesting.
The choir sang "0 There Is Sunshine In My Soul"
accompanied by the organist Jean Hodgert.
Psalm 149 was read responsively. Williams read from
Mark 4:26-32 and the title of his meditation was
"Harvesting the Good Seed".
The hymn "Let us with a Gladsome Mind" was sung.
Joan Morgan gave a minute for mission entitled
"Away From Home"
Larry Lynn and Rick Parker received the offering and
Joan Morgan brought an item forward for the food
bank.
Williams gave prayers of the people and the Lord's
prayer in unison.

GRANTON — The annu-
al decoration day and
memorial service was held
on Sun., Sept. 4 at St.
James Cemetery and
Church, Clandeboye.
At Granton Wesley -
United Church on Sun.,
Sept. 4, Pastor Paul Vollick
led the service and the
message was entitled 'We
are Family'. Elizabeth
Herbert lit the Christ
Candle. The children's
hymn was `Would you
bless our homes'.
Next Sun., Sept. 11, the
muffin social and Sunday
School registration will be
held before the service.
Granton -Wesley UCW
Unit One met on Thurs.,
Sept. 1 at Becky Kindree's
home at noon. Norah
Wissel, Hilda Grose and
the hostess served lunch.
President Doreen
McRobert opened the
meeting with a meditation
'Face Lift'. Cathie
Westman was the secre-
tary and the roll call was
answered by six members
and Pastor Paul Vollick.
Business included plans
for the October meeting
and the muffin morning in
October.
Having the nativity
scenes display the last
Friday and Saturday in
November was also dis-
cussed.
McRobert presented the
program with the theme
'The awesome power of
God'.
At the St. Paul's
Anglican Church in
Kirkton on Sun., Sept. 4,
Rev. Dalice Sim celebrated
the Holy Eucharist. The
message was about work-
ing for the betterment of
the worldwide community.
Bill Schaefer read the
lessons.
On Wed., Aug. 31, the
ladies of St. Paul's
Anglican Church in
Kirkton were guests at the
cottage of Rosemary
Schaefer near Bayfield. At
noon a (you name it)
potluck dinner was
enjoyed, after which
everyone needed to take a
walk or have a rest. Great
food and conversation!

The closing hymn "Precious Lord, Take my Hand"
was sung and Williams gave the commissioning and
pronounced the benediction. The closing chorus was
sung by everyone.
Announcements
Sept. 7 - Standing committee meeting at 7 p.m. fol-
lowed by council meeting at 8:15 p.m.
Sept. 10 - The finance committee is planning the sec-
ond annual golf and barbecue fundraiser at Exeter Golf
Course. $40 includes green fees and all you can eat bar-
becue. Barbecue only $15. Invite your friends and rela-
tives, everyone is welcome. Cash donations or prizes
would be appreciated by the committee. Sign up sheet
on bulletin board or contact Marilyn Vandenbussche,
Rick Parker, Pat Ballantyne or Sandra Rowe.
Sept. 13 - UCW meeting at 9 p.m. Program: Pat
Ballantyne, Marion Cann, Karen Etherington, Ola
Batten. Roll call: bring a house plant, a perennial or
bulbs for exchange. Lunch: Doris Elford, Alma
Ballantyne, Muriel Parsons and Margaret McCarter.
Personals
Sympathy is extended to Ken and Ron Clarke, their
wives and families in the passing of their mother, the
late Gertie Clarke and to Loreen Hamilton in the passing
of her sister and to other relatives in the community.
Belated congratulations are extended to Amy Hodgert
who graduated recently with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Nursing from the University of Western
Ontario. Amy is happy to continue working at the Exeter
Villa and also accepted a full-time position at the
University Hospital in London.
Rick and Karen Etherington are trying to get in touch
with Emil Albrecht in New Orleans. Albrecht worked at
Ice Sculptures in Hensall for the summer and stayed
with Rick and Karen. He returned to New Orleans Aug.
