Until Sept. 18, 50 cents from each sale of a 12 pack of Sparkling Lemonade will go to the run, while 100 per cent of the proceeds from the bouquets will be donated. (photo/Scott Nixon) Lucan's Family Fun Fest By Nina Van Lieshout TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF LUCAN — The first annual Family Fun Fest is tonight in Lucan. "Everyone's invited and it's completely free for the whole family," says Minister Steve Welham of the Living Hope Church in Lucan, formly known as the Lucan Christian Centre. "We really wanted to give something back to the community and let every- one know we appreciate them. There's absolutely no catch, just fun," says Welham. The Family Fun Fest activities begin at 4:30 p.m and end at 8:30 p.m. The evening includes a meal, a draw, entertain- ment and games. Hot dogs, hamburgers and pop will be served. The draw prizes include an iPod, a DVD player, a bike, a $40 gift certificate for Lucan's Wilberforce Inn and much more. A live band from the Glad Tidings Assembly Church in London will entertain the crowd. "There is something for everyone, including jump- ing castles for the kids," says Welham. "We're very excited, it should be a great night." Church resumes Sept. 11 By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA — The Goshen U.C.W. meet Thurs., Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. at the Goshen Church. The group in charge is Linda Keys, Kate Keys, Evelyn McKinley and Norene Hayter. Church resumes Sun., Sept. 11 in Varna Church at 10:30 a.m. Now that we are a week into September and school is about to start we should be watching out for school buses stopping. Many of the youth from the Varna area are heading off in dif- ferent directions either into public school, high school or college or uni- versities. OF COURSE THAT WAS IMPOLITE AS THERE WERE 40 OTHER PEOPLE AT THE PARTY! SO I DID THE NEXT BEST THING AND SCOUTED OUT WHO HAD MADE IT AND IF THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO SHARE THE RECIPE! I HAVE ALREADY MADE THE RECIPE MYSELF AND LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING IT WITH MANY! IT IS GREAT SERVED WITH TORTILLA CHIPS OR 1 COULD SEE IT WITH PITA SHELLS TOO. ENJOY! CORN AND BEAN DIP 2 (1 1 oz.) cans kernel corn, drained 2 (15 oz.) cans black beans, rinsed and drained 1/2 cup Italian style salad dressing 1 cup ranch dressing 1 small onion finely chopped 1 tsp hot pepper sauce 1 tsp chili powder 1/2 tsp ground black pepper Thoroughly mix all ingredients together. Chill for 8 hours or overnight, before serving (it gets nippier and better tasting . r. r • .IV ).
