This means our sum- mer is over and everything gets back to normal again with children in school, bowling and club meetings start up again in September. This was also our last long holiday weekend for a while. Baseball season is winding down and won't be long before hockey starts. I 50th anniversary The planning meeting for the upcoming 150th anniversary of Zurich next year was held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Hall last Wednesday evening with representatives from various church groups and organizations in town. Joyce McBeath chaired the meeting with 13 people attending. Plans are well underway for this big event with various things going on through January 2006 to December 2006, starting with a levee on New Year's Day at the Complex. The homecoming weekend will be held from June 16 to 18, 2006. The next 150 anniversary planning meeting will be Tues., Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Newcomers are welcome. Chuck and Tanya Erb enjoyed spending last week at a cottage in Huntsville. Their daughter Jodi and husband Mark from Parkside subdivision also spent a few days with them. I enjoyed celebrating my 61st birthday on Aug. 30 with my family. We went to London on Tuesday. Thursday we all got together for supper at the Growling Gator in Grand Bend. Happy birthday wishes to Ruth Ann Flaxbard of London on Sept. 4 and to Cheryl Gelinas on Sept. 6. Happy anniversary wishes to Martin and Cheryl Gelinas on Sept. 5. An outdoor get-together was held at the home of Kevin and Shelley Geoffrey on the Sunday after Bean Festival. Planting workshop Huron Ridge Acres of RR 2, Zurich are having a planting workshop on Sat., Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can bring in your tired looking pots or planter basket and redo them with some fresh fall flowers. Call ahead to arrange a time at 565-2122. Also at Huron Ridge on Thurs., Sept. 8 from 4 to 9 p.m. is Moonlight Madness. The Western Fair is on in London from Sept. 9 to 18 with lots of things to see and do for all ages. The Youth Talent Search Competition held at the park stage in the evenings during the fair will be having some contestants from Zurich and area. Welcome to town Ron McAra and Robin Smith from Toronto. They live in the corner house on main street near the post office. Ron has been doing a lot of work on the house both inside and out. It sure looks nice. A big improvement and asset to our vil- lage. Calling all women to come out and bowl on Monday nights at the Town and Country Bowling Lanes in Zurich from 7 to 9 p.m. We bowl three games each week for $11 and have a lot of fun. Anyone interested is invited to join us Sept. 12; call 236-4923. Karen and Dan Masse and family spent an August weekend in Niagara Falls. Also Jim and Anne Finlay of Dashwood spent a couple days in Niagara Falls. Farewell to Jim and Laura Simpson of J & L Variety Store in Zurich who have been here for 15 years. Due to health reasons they are retiring and moving to Stratford. They will be missed by their many friends. Also farewell to Lloyd Cripps from Erb' Country Kitchen. He has worked there for the past 11 years and is making a change in his life to spend more time with his family and will be working for Community Living. Needless to say he will be missed by the customers and staff at the restaurant. Coffee Break The annual Alzheimer's Coffee Break will be held at the Blue Water Rest Home on Wed., Sept. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. with speaker at 2:30 p.m. Volunteer helpers will be needed that day to help Patti Groot set up and serve refreshments. Please call ahead if you can help at 236-4373. On Friday the Dashwood Zion Lutheran Church Women are having a special evening at 7:30 p.m. to hear speaker Elaine Bickel. Everyone is welcome to attend. Several people from Zurich and various places enjoyed a bus trip to 1000 Islands from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2 and stayed at Hill Island Lodge. Everyone had a great time going on daytrips, cruise, meals and nightly entertainment which was arranged by Lottie Grenier and Gwen McKellar.
