(photos/Nina Van Lieshout) All classes of fed cattle get steady prices DENFIELD — The market at Denfield Livestock Sales traded on a good demand at steady prices on all classes of fed cattle with the fancy cattle selling at premium prices. A good offering of cows sold strong at steady prices, stockers sold strong, Holstein bull calves steady, sows and boars were steady. Robert Ready, St. Marys sold six steers average weight 1345, average price 96.93 to a high of 98.75 all of which were purchased by Norwich Packers. Clayton Oniel and Sons, Denfield sold nine head average weight 1347, average price 87.96 to a high of 96.25. Clarence Carter, Parkhill sold a Limousin bull weighing 1935 at 51 purchased by Levinoff. Tom Leneve, Sarnia sold eight stocker steers average weight 614, average price 113.50. Choice steers: 90-95, sales to 98.75; Good steers: 82-88; Plain steers: 70-80; Choice exotic cross heifers: 90- 95; Good heifers: 80- 88; Plain heifers: 65- 75; Good fed cows: 45- 55; D1 and D2 cows: 30-40; D3 and D4 cows: 20-25; Shells: 10-20; Good beef bulls: 40-51; Good Holstein bulls: 30- 40; Good Holstein bull calves: $125-$220; Good sows: 42-46; Light boars: 35-38. advertisers.... Summary Tuesday: The fed steers and heifers sold $1 lower. Choice steers and heifers sold 89 to 95 sales to 105.25, second -cut steers and heifers sold 86 to 88. The cows traded on a steady market. Thursday: The veal sold on a strong active trade with prices up $2. The lambs traded on a steady market. Friday: All weights and classes of stockers sold on a strong active market with prices remaining steady to last week. Steers There were 519 steers on offer. Aaron F. Martin, Newton consigned one blonde steer weighing 1450 lbs which sold for 105.25. His overall offering of eight steers aver- aged 1449 lbs selling for an average price of 98.25. Walter Riddell, Granton consigned one limo steer weighing 1325 lbs which sold for 102.75. His overall offering of nine steers aver- aged 1181 lbs selling for an average price of 96.59. Twelve steers consigned by Emerson L. Martin, Linwood averaged 1409 lbs selling for an average price of 97.14 with his top four limo steers averaging 1320 lbs selling for 99.75. Heifers There were 217 heifers on offer. Lawrence Wideman, Listowel consigned one blonde heifer weighing E E U c 1150 lbs which sold for 98.25. One black heifer con- signed by Fred Bieman, Ayton weighed 1185 lbs which sold for 95. Burton Hayes, Kincardine consigned seven limo heifers averaging 1203 lbs which sold for 94.75. Cows There were 303 cows on offer. D1 & D2: 35-48 sales to 61.50; D3: 30-35; D4: 15- 25. Duncan G. Campbell, Arnprior consigned 13 beef cows averaging 1455 lbs which sold for an average price of 50.31 with sales up to 61.50. Doris Jacklin, Bluevale consigned one gold cow weighing 1435 lbs which sold for 59. Bulls There were 30 bulls on offer selling 30 to 55.50 sales to 63.50. Mike Henry, Brampton consigned one blonde bull weighing 1600 lbs which sold for 63.50. One limo bull consigned by Norm Hossfeld, Hanover weighed 1915 lbs selling to Dominion Meat Packers for 55.50. Veal There were 156 head of veal on offer. Beef: not enough to establish a market; Good Holstein: 85- 93 with sales to 100.50; Medium Holstein: 75 to 85; Plain and Heavy Holstein, Plain: 60-70, Heavy: 75- 85 sales to 90.
