Juniors fight hard battles in playdowns
CREDITON - The Crediton
Laurmart junior girls' fastball team
played with `true grit' at their play-
off tourney recently.
Crediton 7 vs
Otterville 2
The juniors started off
their playoff tourney on a
high note defeating a team
which they were unable to
beat throughout their regu-
lar season.
A very fast -paced game
strikeouts. Pertschy should be com-
mended for her 'team play' all
weekend, even when her pitching
arm was `screaming' for
saw quick innings until the Amber
fifth when Crediton jumped Preszcator
on the bats and scored six
runs. Otterville replied with two
runs in the fifth but with Crediton's
extra insurance run in the sixth, the
local squad closed the door on its
opponents.
The Preszcator sisters played per-
fectly both defensively and offen-
sively. Amber's range on second
base along with her bunting ability
and Megan's strong bat were defi-
nitely important factors of the win.
Julie Prout, Amber Preszcator,
Megan Preszcator and Kelli Fulton
led their team at the plate with two
hits apiece. Kelli Fulton placed a
perfect bunt in the fifth inning to
keep the inning alive. Kerri Fulton,
Jessica Davies, Margaret Geurts and
Janelle Dykstra added single hits.
With star pitcher Carrie Dixon
injured, Carie Pertschy filled the
position superbly notching three
relief.
Crediton 3 vs Rebels 4
A hard-fought battle with
the first place team was a
great game for spectators.
Crediton took a 1-0 lead in
the second inning
after Jessica Bray
crossed the plate
with a bunt by
Jessica Davies and
a double by Megan
Preszcator. Julie Prout
pounded out a long home
run in the third inning to
take a 2-0 lead. Crediton
scored one more in the
sixth and the London
Rebels replied with three in
the bottom of the sixth to tie the
game. Crediton was unable to score
the winning run in the seventh but
its opponents replied with one to
take the win. Crediton was the only
junior team to defeat the first place
team throughout the season so the
girls should be very proud of their
showing.
Julie Prout, who played a phenom-
enal catching position all weekend
led her team at the plate with a
home run and single and single hits
came from the bats of Kerri Fulton
and Megan Preszcator. Nikki Cyr
placed a perfect bunt in the sixth to
move Prout to scoring position.
Carie Pertschy again pitched a
strong game for Crediton.
Crediton 6 vs Ilderton 9
A tired Crediton team fought
another hard battle against Ilderton
but were unable to stop its opponent
in the sixth inning when Ilderton
took the lead.
Clean-up batter Kerri
Fulton led her team at the
plate with a triple and two
singles. Jessica Davies blast-
ed out a home run and a sin-
gle. Kelli Fulton, Jessica
Bray, Megan Preszcator,
Margaret Geurts and Janelle
Dykstra added single hits
while Nikki Cyr reached first
successfully three times with
two walks and a single.
Carie Pertschy started the
game with relief by Jessica Bray.
The whole team played some
amazing ball all weekend demon-
strating great plays with honourable
mention to Kelli Fulton and Jessica
Davies who were on fire on the left
side of the infield.
Coach's note
This group of players are a joy to
coach. Their dependability,, coacha-
bility and camaraderie made for a
fun year. Try to catch some of this
team's fastball action next season.
You will be entertained!
