She added she has spoken to Richard Joy, an assistant at the municipal affairs office. "They indicate although they are not excited about moving in that direction, they are not dos- ing any doors to the possibility," said Wise. (photo/submitted) Express prepare for OBA's EXETER — The Exeter Express picked up two wins last week against St.Thomas. Marty Merner pitched his best game of the year Aug. 15 allowing three scattered hits and one unearned run. His changeup was so intimidating that the Elgin batters were off balance and hit into 18 groundouts. Merner had excellent defence from his starting infield of Dan Masse, Aaron Patterson, Vic Oliveira and Lonnie Hawke. Bobby Grant was at his best behind the plate. The game was close until the Express rallied for three runs in the eighth and ninth innings for a 5-1 victory. The Express used timely hitting and a series of well placed bunts to upset the Elgin defense. Offensive heroes were Patterson with three hits and a walk, Dan Masse with a hit and two walks, Merner with a single and a double, Grant with a hit and a walk (his 36th of the season) and singles from Nick Regier and Hawke. The Express showed that if they had been able to focus their attention on the league they would likely have made the playoffs on Saturday. St. Thomas forfeited the game to be played on Aug. 16 in Exeter. After much indecision, the OBA and WOBA determined that all three teams from the area (Exeter, Mitchell and Kincardine) should quali- fy for the tournament in Wallaceburg on Labour Day weekend. The Express completed their league schedule at Strathroy defeating the first place Royals 5-2. This ran their record to 11 wins and 13 losses. The final playoff team had 12 wins. It is likely that waiting for the OBA to decide on its playoff format cost the team a spot in the league playoffs on Saturday, according to team spokesman Joe THE HURON -PERTH CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD P.O.
