(photo/submitted) Playhouse's Twist and Shout a must see By Stephanie Mandziulc TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF GRAND BEND — In the early 1960s a wave of rhythms rolled across North America forever changing the landscape of modern music. Twist and Shout: The British Invasion pays trib- ute to the artists who were part of that wave: The Beatles, The Hollies and The Rolling Stones, to name just a few. This production, con- ceived, written and directed by Alex Mustakas, is brilliant! The performers are exceptional in their deliv- ery of classic tunes from the era, particularly Christine Glen, Ange Pagano, Danny Williams and Duff MacDonald. However, there was a glitch opening night, bal- ancing the sound system. At times some singers were drowned out by the band. The entire production is a spinoff of a 1960s vari- ety show. In this case it's called The Roy Solomon Show, sponsored by Dristan and Heinz Pickles. Two cameras are film- ing the action which is projected onto giant screens on either side of the stage. There are even commercial breaks (with vintage ads) for the "live audience watching from home." A Member OF The ONTARIO MUTUAL INSURANCE ASSOCIATION Al you'll also see historical footage. There's more than singing in this production. Dancing, magic and a hearty dash of comedy blends everything togeth- er. Duff MacDonald's rendi- tion of the tune Mellow Yellow, by Donovan, is hilarious! Delilah, a Tom Jones trademark tune, is pre- sented in a very interest- ing way leaving little to the imagination. Sorry folks I'm not spoiling the surprise. You'll have to venture out to see what I'm talking about. Word of mouth is the best advertzing of all and I'm sure this show will be a sell out very soon. Twist and Shout: The British Invasion ends the season, at the Huron Country Playhouse, on a high note. Kudos to everyone who is part of this production.
