Women s`Institute hosts
The Women's Institute, Huron South, hosted a work-
shop Aug. 9 in Dashwood. The focus was on local
history and included the antique doll collection of
Marion Kernighan, of the Ilderton area. Kernighan is
holding Florence Nightingale, a wax over composition
doll made in Germany in the 1870s. The oldest doll
in her collection (1850s) is made out of paper mache

Varna
Church with
Pastor Elly
officiating at the rere-
mony.
Grandparents of Halle,
Bob and June Webster,
had a family gathering
at their home following
the baptism.
Congratulations to
David and Bonnie Roy
on the arrival of their
new grandson, Dawson
Aaron Roy. Dawson's
parents are Dennis and
Erin.
Wayne and Joan
Beierling celebrated
their 30th wedding
anniversary with a fami-
ly dinner in Kitchener at
Golfs Steakhouse and
Seafood Restaurant.
There are no worship
services in Varna and
Goshen for the month of
August. Church will
resume in Varna on
Sept. 11.
Varna United Church
Women
(UCW) are
meeting at
the Varna Church at
5:30 p.m. to car pool to
Blyth to the United
Church for supper and
then to see "The
Thirteenth One" at the
Blyth Theatre Aug. 25.
The UCW are also
catering Meghan
Hayter's wedding dinner
on Aug. 20 at the
Complex. Meghan is the
granddaughter of
Margaret Hayter and is
wished all the best.

Horticultural Society's hosts show

GRANTON — Granton
area members attended
the Kirkton Horticultural
Society's flower and veg-
etable show at the
Kirkton-Woodham
Community Centre on
Aug. 9.
Denise Hodgins of
London was the guest
speaker and showed pic-
tures of gardens and gave
a commentary of a recent
trip to Holland.
Lillus Riddell hosted the
Cook family picnic at her
home on Aug. 7 when 80
family members attend-
ed. They also celebrated
Billy Cook's birthday.
At the Granton Wesley
United Church on Sun.,
Aug. 14, Mitch Benner lit
the Christ candle. "Now Is
the Time to Worship" was
sung by Amanda Vollick,
accompanied by Julie
Stewardson.
Paster Paul Vollick led
the service and the mes-
sage was entitled "Defoe
Average." The lessons
were from Matthew 15
and Romans 2.
At St. Paul's Anglican
Church in Kirkton on
Sun., Aug. 14, Rev. Dalice
Sim led the service of
morning prayer. Christine
Downey assisted with the
service.
The message was about
reaching out and being
mindful of the needs of
others. The lesson was
read by Garth Blackler. A
time of fellowship fol-
lowed the service.
