Volunteers contribute many hours to the programs & residents of Queensway, for which we are grateful. Sunday afternoon some staff members volunteered Over 400 jobs posted this summer EXETER — The Exeter and Goderich Human Resource Centres of Canada for Students (HRCC-S) have posted approxi- mately 425 student job vacancies over the past three months. This puts our local HRCC-Ss well on their way to reaching their goal of posting 450 summer SUMMER jobs before closing Aug. 26. EMPLOYMENT This is an increase of nearly 22 OFFICER per cent over last year when 370 full-time, part-time and casual vacancies were posted on the Job Bank Website and in our offices. So far this season, we have posted nearly 14 per cent more jobs than what was posted during the entire summer of 2004 and we still have three weeks left! It's not too late for employers and homeowners to hire students. Students are still available for full-time and part-time positions as well as odd jobs around the home or business. The Exeter and Goderich HRCC-Ss have been very active throughout the summer So far we have helped 671 young people improve their job search skills through group information sessions and we have worked with approximately 105 through one-on-one sessions. The HRCC-Ss offer many free services to employ- ers and students such as access to job postings, information about employment standards, health and safety in the workplace, wage rates and other Government of Canada programs and services. This summer, the Exeter HRCC-S closed Aug. 9. Exeter area employers, homeowners and students are encouraged to contact the Goderich office for further assistance. The Goderich HRCC-S will remain open until Aug. 26. Employers interested in using our services, and students looking for summer employment, can contact Katie at the Goderich HRCC-S at (519) 524-8342, ext. 232 (or 1-800-265-5185, ext. 232) or you can visit 52 East St., Goderich. Starting Aug. 10, the Goderich HRCC-S will be open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Human Resource Centres of Canada for Students are part of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. Paula Townsend with her St. Johns Ambulance trained Pet Therapy Dog "Popcorn" visited the pet lovers Wednesday morning. The little Maltese always seems to know who needs a little extra loving. On the agenda at Coffee & Current Events Thursday were the horoscopes and days agone sections in the local papers. Residents also enjoy keeping up on the events in the daily paper. In the afternoon baking group participants made delicious oatmeal cookies that they taste tested fresh & warm from the oven, pronouncing them delicious. Friday afternoon residents gathered in the shade by the fountain and husked corn for supper. Many hands made this task easy & fun as residents reminiscence about how much corn they used to "do down" for their families. Friday evening Andy Rau, Ann & Jack Youngston and Phyllis Deichert entertained with music & song in the retirement home lounge. Volunteer Edna Deitz served refreshments & assisted residents.
