Now in its eleventh year of operation, the school now encompass- es three locations: West -Windsor; Central - Guelph and new for 2005, East -Trenton. The schools have grown to the point where they now attract officials from across the province and the United States. The successful and popular school format provides new and less experienced officials with an opportunity to acquire officiating skills and rule knowl- edge while completing OMHA and Hockey Canada certification requirements. The intensive agenda features classroom instruction including audiovisual presenta- tions, as well as on -ice training. The OMHA Referee Schools feature a vari- ety of guest speakers. This includes the 'Hot Stove' panel discus- sion. This unique feature of the school consists of a panel including present and former officials of the National Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Ontario Hockey Federation. School objectives include: •To teach the meth- ods and procedures of officiating in both the two and three official systems. •To instruct uniform interpretation of the rules. •To provide each offi- cial with on -ice ses- sions to acquaint them with the duties of the referee and linesmen. •To provide each offi- cial with an opportuni- ty to improve overall officiating perfor- mance. •To learn effective communication strate- gies and techniques. Dates for the Windsor and Guelph schools are from Sept. 23-25. The Trenton school will run from Sept. 30 - Oct. 2. The cost for the school for new officials is $229 before Aug. 12 and $254 after.
