Exeter Express post pair of one -run wins
EXETER — The
Exeter Express ran
their winning streak to
four games with excit-
ing victories over
Lakeside and Listowel
last week.
This improves the
season record to eight
wins and nine losses
and gives the team a
better chance of quali-
fying for the playoffs.
The game against
Lakeside July 26 in
Exeter was a see saw
affair with scores of 1-
1, 4-4 and 5-5 before
the Express rallied for
the winner in the ninth.
Curtis Meyers pitched
another excellent game
holding Lakeside to just
one earned run on six
hits over eight plus
innings.
Marty Merner
relieved in the ninth to
pick up the win.
Exeter's star hitter on
the day was Lonnie
Hawke who had four
including driving in the
winning run in the
ninth.

a double and a triple.
Aaron Patterson had
two doubles, Justin
Hayter added two sin-
gles and Bob Grant had

This was the first win
over Lakeside in two
plus years and the two
teams met again
Tuesday in London.
The game against
Listowel started poorly
as Listowel was able to
score two unearned
runs in the first inning
The Express were
able to rally with three
runs of their own in the
first with key hits from
Aaron Patterson and
Vic Oliveira.
Hits by Scott Smith
and Oliveira helped to
extend the lead in the
fourth.
Listowel closed the
score to 4-3 in the
eighth but were unable
to gain a tying run.
Dan Masse scored an
insurance run in the
ninth.
Jeff Erskine pitched
the first five innings
allowing two unearned
runs on three hits
before he was relieved.
Dan Masse gave up
one run on seven hits
over the final four
innings.
The leading Exeter
hitter was Oliveira
with three including
two doubles and four
runs batted in.
Patterson added two
and Leppington had
one as did Masse,
Smith and Jason
Smith.
It was also the first
game of the year since
opening day for Aaron
Leppington and Jason
Smith's seasonal debut
and both played well
to help the team con-
tinue its streak.
The Express play two
games Saturday in
Tillsonburg.
