The weather was great for the outdoor activities such as the horse show's, parade and live- stock. The Friday night tal- ent and magic show with "Dickie Bird" had a good audience. Lots of people were out to dance and hear Chris and The New Boys. The Lions Club Elimination Draw $1,000 winner was Rick Fisher of Zurich. There were lots of children's activities going on all day Saturday after the parade at the complex. There were 15 babies entered in the baby show. Thanks to my helpers Deb Regier, Martha Risi and the Hensall Fair Ambassador. Also the business's in town who gave donations for door prizes. The horse show sched- uled for Sunday morning was held in the after- noon due to the rain. The Fiddler's Jamboree and ham sup- per was enjoyed by peo- ple from several places. Special thanks to all who helped in any way to make this years fair a great success. Especially to President Paul Klopp and Secretary -Treasurer Margaret Deichert for their long hours of work. A pot luck supper will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25, 6 p.m. at the complex for all the vol- unteers. The family of Rob and Lisa Pedlar enjoyed last week on holidays at a cottage near Port Elgin. A bridal shower was held for Dianne Dearing on July 22 at the Hay Township Hall in Zurich. CHICKEN BBQ St. Boniface Parish annual chicken barbe- cue will be held in the school yard on Sunday, Aug. 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are avail- able at $10 for adults $ 5 for children 6-12 years old from Gord Smith 236-4188, John Jacobs 262-2013 or at the church office 236-4191. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to Phil and Laurie Erb who cel- ebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary on July 19. A party was held at their home Saturday with several family members, rela- tives and friends attend- ing. Carol (Erb) Gingerich spent last week in Kitchener visiting her two sisters, Delphine Zehr and Eleanor Jantzi. They enjoyed going to Niagara Falls for a few days with a family she sponsored from Afghanistan, who now lives in Kitchener. PAINTBALL ADVENTURE It's very interesting to see what the "paint ball sport looks like at the old arena in Zurich. Visitors are welcome to drop in and watch the game in action. You have to see it to believe it. On July 19 all of my five daughters and Jerome's mother Marie, enjoyed seeing "Give My Regards to Broadway"at the Huron Country Playhouse near Grand Bend. It was a wonderful show. One of our Zurich girls, Lori Armstrong was chosen out of the audience to be on stage with others to help the singer, David Rogers with his performance. Lori is such a good sport. The lucky winner of the 50/50 draw that evening, worth $380 went to Marie Gelinas of Zurich. CHURCH SERVICE On Sunday, July 31 there is a joint church service at the Dashwood Pavilion for members of the Zurich Emmanuel a n d Dashwood ZURICH Calvary United Churches. During the month of August ser- vices will be held at Dashwood Calvary United Church at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Pastor Alex McGilvery. A reminder of the Ladies Auxiliary meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the audito- rium at Blue Water Rest Home. There will be a musical program by the children of Tom and Lisa McBride. Everyone is most welcome to join us. John and Bridget Groot of Parkside Sub- division in Zurich had relatives visiting from Holland last week. St. BONIFACE BUILDING FUND Be sure to keep your empty pop cans for the St. Boniface Building Fund as your support is greatly appreciated and needed. Leave them at the home of Doug Debus in Zurich and John Jacobs in Hensall. Our Lady of the Rosary Shrine near Merlin at St. Patrick's Church are having Mass each day at 11 a.m. from Aug. 13 to 22 with Blessing of the sick and procession with the Rosary and Statue of Mary. Bring a picnic lunch. FOOT CARE CLINIC The next Foot Care Clinic at Maple Woods Apartment will be Monday, Aug. 8 from 8:30 to noon in the com- mon room. Bring your own towel and $13. No appointment is neces- sary. ZURICH YARD SALE Saturday, Aug. 13 is the Zurich Community Yard Sale. A delicious Pancake Breakfast will be cooked and served by the local firefighters at Successful Vacation Bible School By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON — The Granton -Wesley congregation held a breakfast in the park pavilion on Sunday morning, July 24. The church service followed at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Paul Vollick. Guest Bob Heywood of Exeter led the singing and gave the message. A former Granton resi- dent Elizabeth (Lambert) Charteris, 69, of Arkona died at Strathroy Hospital on Thurs., July 21. Elizabeth was the wife of Kilburn, daughter of Nell Lambert of Strathroy and a sister of Peter and Carolyn. Interment Arkona Cemetery. The Bryan families held their annual get-together picnic at the Granton Park pavilion on Sunday afternoon, July 24. Vacation Bible School The Granton -Wesley Vacation Bible School was held at the church last week, July 18-22 from 9-12 a.m. when 30 children attended. The leadership GRANTO team included John Herbert as captain, Cindy Bilyea led the singing, Pennie McRobert - Sports, Terry Herbert - Dramatics, Doreen McRobert - Crafts. Teenage helpers were Dana McRobert, Amie McRobert, Suzanne Jacques, Erica Garrett, Whitney Benner and Glen Bilyea. In charge of snacks were Cathie Westman, Isabel Mardlin, Cheryl Wright and Heather Benner. Pastor Paul Vollick was present every day. The program was a sail away, and helped the group to know more about Paul, the missionary and how God was with him in his journeys, just as God is with each one today. On Sept. 11, fall activities get back in full swing. Church is at 10 a.m. and Sunday School at the same time with classes for ages three years and older. Nursery is available. There is a youth group for grades 4 and older which meets on alternate Sunday evenings. N NEWS the Fire Hall. BEAN FESTIVAL The Bean Festival Committee NEWS are looking for volun- teer helpers to get the bean kitchen cleaned up ready to start cooking on Wednesday, Aug. 3, and Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. There is lots to be done before the big day on Saturday, Aug. 27. This years is the 40th Anniversary so come out and help if you can. Call Rose Erb for informa- tion. ONTARIO EARLYYEARS PLAYGROUPS SUBMITTED BY NATALIE LAPORTE. Come out and join us, meet new people, learn songs, play games, read stories and do crafts. Play groups are offered in Zurich at the Lutheran Church on Tuesdays 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Dashwood Zion Lutheran church Tuesdays 10 to 11:30 a.m.: Exeter, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. All programs are free. July 14, "Trip to chil- dren's Museum, London. July 15, "Exercise and Fitness Day": tae bo and aerobics, pictionary and charades, races, drew a fitness and fun collage. Monday, July 18, "Magical Mystery Day": murder -wink game, frozen tag, creat- ed magic head bands and wands, mafia and leap frog. Tuesday, July 19, "Summer Olympics Day": obstacle course, multiple races, baseball, created a paper mache ball, wheelchair races. Wednesday, July 20, "Slumber party Day": pictionary, hide-and- seek, ghost and gossip story, made forts, snack time.
