Fire destroys portion of home
By Stephanie Mandziuk
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
GRAND BEND — Fire
damage to a lakefront
home in Grand Bend
could reach the
$100,000 mark.
Crews responded to
the blaze on Indian
Road in Oakwood
Sunday, just before 11
p.m.
Deputy fire chief Stan
Lovie says homeowners
Bill and Linda Steele,
along with some
teenagers, escaped
unharmed.
Lovie says the north-
west corner of the home
sustained substantial
structural damage.
There was also smoke
and water damage to
the rest of the building.
Investigators are not
saying how the fire
started. They have con-
firmed a smoke detec-
tor was working when
crews arrived on the
scene.
As many as 18 fire-
fighters from Grand
Bend's volunteer
department responded
to the call. Lovie says
everything went well in
terms of extinguishing
the fire.
Crews returned to the
fire hall just before 1
a.m.
The northwest section of this Grand Bend home sus-
tained major damage during a Sunday night fire.
