Hensall shows off creative side on weekend

Decoration Day service Sun. July 31

HENSALL — At Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Tracy
Whitson-Bahro was the
minister with Joyce Pepper playing the
organ.
The offering was received by Al
Hoggarth and Harry Smith. The service
ended with benediction and the closing
hymn. Service begins at
Carmel Church at 10 a.m.,
everyone is welcome to
attend.

Church picnic service on July 31 at the Complex

VARNA — Worship began with a hymn sing this past
week at Goshen singing some old favourites with accom-
panist Anna Keys at the piano.
Guest were welcomed, especially Ruby and Gordon
Hill's great-grandson Nicholas and Geraldine and Jack
Eckels grandchildren, Kendra and Hayden.
These three youngsters enjoyed the children's time
with Pastor Elly Van Bergen who amazed
them with Jacob's Ladder billfold trick
while explaining Jacob's dream of the lad-
der reaching to Heaven.
Birthday wishes and birth announcements were given
in the Congregational Sharing of Joys time, the best
being Anna Keys subtle reminder to husband Bruce they
have a 59th wedding anniversary coming up.
Congrats to Bruce and Anna and to Elmer and Norene
Hayter on the birth of their 23rd great-grandchild, Noah
Scott Middleton.
Sun., July 24 worship will be in Goshen and July 31
will be the church picnic service at the Complex with the
Exeter Community Band as musical guests.
Looking ahead
Plan to attend the open house garden party at the
Manse on Sat., Aug. 6. The rain date is Sun., Aug. 7.
For the month of August there will be no worship ser-
vice in either Varna or Goshen. Church will resume in
Varna on Sun., Sept. 11. This is your chance to visit
other neighbouring churches.
Hazy heat didn't deter true cheesecake lovers at the
extravaganza last Sunday.
Tempting creations such as Fudge Trifle,
Pampered Pumpkin or even, As Rich as Sin
White Chocolate Cheesecake—a few of the
15 different cheesecakes offered—were hard to pass up.
One of the young enthusiasts, Katie Sparling, com-
mented that whoever made the Magic Cherry
Cheesecake deserved an A+!
Many thanks to Marj, Helen, Anna, Kate and Peggy,
and Nora Keys, Linda Linfield, Geraldine Eckel, Mary
McBride, Leanne Coclough, Terri Louch, Elly Van
Bergen, Marg Hayter and Marg Robinson for their culi-
nary efforts.

brating their 25th wedding anniversary on July 19.
Family and friends gathered for a surprise dinner on
Saturday night hosted by Carol's mother Marg Lince and
her sister Christine.
Near the end of May a family gathering was also held
in honour of BM and Carol's anniversary at the home of
Deb and Don Rathwell.
Cara Stephenson is working at Canada's Wonderland
in Toronto for the season in the entertainment area.
Parents Blaine and Leisa, along with grandparents
Ralph and Mona Stephenson, and Aunt Deb and Uncle
Don Rathwell were down to see her perform in two
shows.
Wayne and Joan Beierling were to Oshawa to visit
their daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jeremy, on
the weekend.
While there they attended the baptism of their grand-
daughter Madelyn Pilkey at the Oshawa Centennial
Albert United Church.
Congrats to Ryan Keys. Keys graduated from
Conestoga College in Kitchener.
