Fury blanked 2-0 by Curinga
EXETER — The Exeter Fury saw action Sunday
against a shorthanded Delhi squad.
Delhi, playing with only nine men must have
known they were in trouble before the game began
when they saw 18 Fury members present.
Exeter controlled most of the play and came away
with a 4-0 win.
Exeter got on the board midway through the first
half when a Pete McAllister free kick was redirected
into the back of the net by Ryan Carroll.
A short while later, they made it 2-0 when Tom
Phouttharath made a pass to Fragiskos Fragiskatos
who one -timed a bullet into the net.
The locals almost made it 3-0 when Phouttarath
rang one off the cross bar.
In the second half, the Fury extended their lead to
3-0.
Chris Hern beat the Delhi defender to the outside
before making a cross to Matt Prout who headed the
ball into an open net.
Phouttharath made it 4-0 when he converted on a
pass from his brother Pete.
"All in all it was a good effort against a short-hand-
ed team," said team spokesman Shawn McFalls.
"If we could have buried have the chances we had,
it would have been 8-0."
The Fury were in London Sunday to play against
the last place Curinga squad, who looked anything
but last place, defeating the Fury 2-0.
Exeter didn't appear to be in the game from the
start as Curinga controlled the play, making crisp
passes around the Fury players.
This paid off when early in the opening half, a
Curinga forward made a cross from the right side
which was deflected past exeter keeper Nate Holmes
to put the home side up 1-0.
Exeter began to play better midway through the
the half, but were unable to muster any offence.
In the second half, Curinga pressed again, this time
lofting the ball over a committed Holmes, only to hit
the crossbar.
A scramble ensued in front of the Fury net, with
defender Joe Forrester clearing the ball out of
harm's way.
A short while later, Forrester made an excellent
cross in front of the Curinga goal only to see their
keeper scoop it up before Ryan Carroll could get
there.
Curinga added an insurance goal while Exeter had
a man injured on the pitch.
Curinga sent a man in all alone and he was able to
beat Holmes with a low shot.
Exeter next sees action Aug. 3 when they travel
back to London to face Curinga in a Second Division
Cup semifinal match.
