Clowning around with Elvis and friends
What do dinner, dancing and Elvis have in common? They were all part of a fun night for clients sponsored by the Community Living South Huron Auxiliary. The July
14 event at Dashwood Community Hall had a clown theme and some came dressed as the King of Rock and Roll. Left: Janice Sharrow and Paul Consitt dance up a
storm. Centre: Allan Hyde (as Elvis) plays his harmonica. Right: Elvis the performer (Dan Granger) has the undivided attention of Marlee Baker. A day earlier, 102
clients of the agency received a special surprise — $100 each thanks to the success of the new Arc Angels thrift store. Since January it has earned $25,000. There are
expenses to take into account, but the auxiliary wants to share as much as it can with its clients. It's hoping to repeat the gesture before Christmas — that's another
$10,200. (photos/Stephanie Mandziuk)

Gator basking
in the sun
By Stephanie Mandziuk
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — Exeter's
newest resident has been
caught twice basking in
the sun at the Morrision
Reservoir.
The latest sighting of the
alligator was July 12 as it
was catching some rays.
Kate Monk, with the
Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority,
says it's likely a Caiman
member of the Crocodilian
family because that's the
breed often sold in the pet
trade. It's suspected
someone dumped the 18
inch creature in the area.
Alligators are not indige-
nous to local waters. It is
not expected to survive
because the habitat is not
suitable.
So far ABCA staff have
not seen the gator.
They're hoping someone
will tip them off quickly so

From the new medical dictionary:
Cosmeceuticals are ingredients in cosmetic
preparations that contain chemicals that are
biologically active. Anti -wrinkle creams, anti -
baldness preparations and sunscreens are
examples of products containing cosmeceuticals.
It's interesting that two of the most famous soft drinks in the
world were given life through the efforts of pharmacists. Coca
Cola was invented by a pharmacist in the U.S. and Canada Dry
Ginger Ale was patented by Canadian pharmacist, John
McLaughlin back in 1907. Pharmacists were also involved with the
origin of Hires Root Beer and Dr. Pepper. Why pharmacists? They
knew a lot about flavours and how to carbonate liquids at their
pharmacy soda fountains.
Do you have trouble being open and inviting with people you
meet? Here are a few tips: Smile; keep an open posture (no
crossed arms(; lean forward toward the person not away, maintain
eye contact; and nod your head in agreement while listening.
There are many unproven "cures" out there. One in ten people
try these products to get relief from arthritis. Before you try
something like this check on it with your doctor and pharmacist. It
could save you a lot of money.

they can react and trap it
with a net.
Monk says the ABCA
would turn it over to one
of two agencies. The first
would place the gator in
an adoptive home and the
other would use it for edu-
cational displays.
"If you see the alligator,
please treat it with the
same respect as you
would any other wildlife, "
says Monk.
Do not approach the ani-
mal, just report your
sighting as soon as possi-
ble by contacting the
ABCA at 519-235-2610.
