Storm damages trees

Many thanks to school's volunteers
Volunteers make a huge difference throughout the school year when it comes to lending a helping hand. On
June 29 Exeter Public School thanked its 49 volunteers during an assembly on the last day of classes.

POLICE BRIEF
Theft from hotel
GRAND BEND — On the morning of June 21, OPP
were notified about the theft of a ring from a room at a
local hotel at the north end of Grand Bend. A young
couple with two small children had been staying at the
resort when someone entered the room between June
20th and June 21st. Stolen from the room was a white
gold wedding band with a braid design, valued at
$2,000.
Carnival at Pork Blake park from July 7 to July 10

ZURICH — Big changes are going on at the Town
and Country Bowling Lanes in Zurich as they are
in the process of putting in computerized, auto-
matic score keepers. Everything should be up and
running around the first part of August. League
games will begin in September again.
Congratulations to Paul and Cathy Steckle who
recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary with
family and relatives at Hessenland.
A very nice Canada Day staff party beginning
with a golf tournament at Bayview was held for
Erb's Country Kitchen and ended with a delicious
barbecue supper at the home of Mike and Kim
Ryckman in Dashwood.
A western -style buck and doe
party was held for Mike (Mouse)
Masse and Dianne Dearing recently at RR #3,
Zurich. A good time was had by all. Mike is the
son of Louis and Catherine Masse, Zurich. The
couple are planning to be married in November.
On Tues., July 5 members of the Women's
Institute were among those who attended their
Huron South district picnic at the Grand Bend
Legion.
The Zurich group are also getting things ready
for their display at the Zurich Fair on July 22, 23.
Little Nicole Elizabeth Heard, daughter of
Kristin and Keith of Arva, was baptized on Sun.,
July 2 at St. Patrick's Church in Lucan by Father
Vince. A family get-together followed at the home
of grandparents, Melissa and Neil Francis in
Lucan with relatives attending from Zurich.
St. Boniface Catholic Women's League held their
last meeting on June 21 with speaker Shelley
McPhee-Haist from Town and Country Support
Services.
President Joan Regier opened the meeting with
prayer. Patti Hunt read the correspondence and
an invitation was received by the Zion Lutheran
Church women for Sept. 16 to hear Elaine Bickel
at 7:30 p.m. The topic will be "Daughters of God -
Reflecting His Love."
Helen Regier has volunteered to make a new
coffin banner to be used at the funeral home for
our Catholic Women League members.
The annual St. Boniface Parish Knights of
Columbus chicken barbecue will be held Sun.,
Aug. 14 outdoors. Joan thanked
everyone for all the items collected
for Dr. Simone recently and especial-
ly to the Arc Angels store in Dashwood.
A motion was made for the league to pay half of
the amount of the cost for prayer books in church
and see if the Knights of Columbus will pay the
rest.
It was also decided to start collecting our mem-
bership dues early this year (Sept. 24 and 25 and
Oct. 1 and 2.) at Masses so that Janet Soudant can
get the money into head office on time.
Groups to work at the pie booth at Bean Festival
on Aug. 27 were able to pick their times and all
quilt tickets and money can be returned to the
drum at the back of the church or give it to Julie
Becker.
The next meeting will be held on Sept. 20 with a
ZURICH NEWS
potluck supper and early Mass with Rose Marie
Regier and Mary Lou Denomme groups in charge.
Also 25 and 50 -year pins will be handed out that
night. No meetings in the summer
John and Debbie Pennings also attended the
presidents meeting in Dublin on June 25.
There will be a big carnival at the Port Blake
park at the Waterworks on the Bluewater Highway
from Thurs., July 7 to Sun., July 10 with lots of
rides, food and entertainment.
It's nice to see Annette Stephan and three chil-
dren home for the summer months until the end of
August. They are here from Tokyo, Japan to visit
her parents, Karl and Mary Regier and in-laws
Jack and Sandy Stephan, all of Zurich. Husband
Mark will be joining them for holidays later on.
Relatives from the Zurich area attended an
engagement party for Jim Denomme and
Cassandra Frescura held in London Sat., July 2 at
the home of her parents. The couple are planning
a wedding next year. Jim is the son of Francis and
Cindy Denomme of Zurich.
Children's soccer games are being held at St.
Boniface schoolyard every Monday at 7:30 p.m. for
ages 14 years and up. Games for the smaller ones
will be held on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. for three
years and up. For more information call 236-7493

Family camping for St. Peter's Lutheran Church
is at the Old Homestead in Bayfield. Call Michelle
Depaepe at 236-7979; there are sites still avail-
able.
