A 50/50 draw prize was won by Bruce Shapton and Martin Andrew. Regular draw prizes were won by Marjorie Mills, Frances Ayotte, Chester Dunn and Leona Morley. Elinor Clarke spoke and showed slides on June 7. Mary F. Dow, Roger and Murray Christie performed on June 14. On June 21, Kim Poulton, from the Canadian Hearing Society spoke and did hearing screening tests after the program for those individuals who were interested. On June 28 Mark Foresi from the Brain Tumor Society spoke. Cards were sent to Mabel Stanlake, Maxine Sereda, Adeline Denomme's family and Beryl Elgie's family. Both of these individuals will be sadly missed. Foot care appoint- ments can be made by contacting 235-0258. The next appointment dates will be July 5 and 19 and again Aug. 2 and 16. Graduate - Laurie Erb graduated on the Dean's Honour List with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario. She received a Bachelor of Arts music degree at the June 15, 2005 convocation cere- mony. In September, Laurie will be attending the Faculty of Education at U.W.O. where she will com- plete the Bachelor of Education program. Congratulations! We are very proud of you! Love Phil, Stephanie and Ashley, Mom & Dad Extravaganza in Varna By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA — Church was in Varna on Sunday with the celebration of Canada Day. "0 Canada" was sung fol- lowed by the hymn of praise, "To God Be The Glory." Pastor Elly Van Bergen's story time was on Canada. Willi Laurie, accompanied by son Graham on guitar, sang "This Land is My Land." Following the commissioning and blessing, ice cream sundaes with berries were enjoyed by the congregation. Next Sunday, church will be in Varna and will be cele- brating with the Nguyen family who have been in Canada 25 years. There will be a potluck lunch at the Complex pavilion to follow. In case of rain, the lunch will be at the church. Sat., July 16 the UCW summer event will be held at the Siloam United Church in London. Church is in Goshen on Sun., July 17. In the afternoon from 1:30 to 3 p.m., you can go to the Goshen Church and enjoy their cheesecake extravaganza. For only $7 per person you get one piece each of baked or unbaked cheesecake (total of 15 different kinds) and refreshments. Additional pieces to be had for just a toonie each. Looking ahead on July 31 the picnic service will be held at the Varna Complex with the Exeter Community Band as guests with a potluck lunch to follow. Sat., Aug. 6 there will be an open house and garden party at the manse with freewill offering. Rain date will be Aug. 7. Birthday wishes are extended to Elmer Hayter. Congregational and community get well wishes are extended to Jean Armstrong and Margie Elliott. The Varna community welcomes David Scott to the village. Scott has purchased the former Wilfred Chuter home. Once again anyone with any news of any happenings please feel free to call me by Sunday evening at 233- 7443. Graduate - We are happy to announce the graduation of Marilou Hern from Brock University Teacher's College with a Bachelor of Education degree on June 7, 2005.
