Tips to ignite kids' interest in reading
This summer, libraries
across Canada will run the
TD Summer Reading Club,
a program designed to
promote literacy to school -
aged children. Here are
some tips to help keep kids
reading this summer.
1. Show them reading is
fun. Spend time each day
reading together as a fam-
ily and have fun reading
out loud with your chil-
dren. Create a scrapbook
of your summer activities
and write the captions
together.
2. Keep them interested.
When taking a trip to your
local library, let the chil-
dren pick out materials
they are interested in
reading. Comics, maga-
zines, even baseball or
hockey cards will help
children with their reading
skills.
3. Make reading an
everyday activity.
Encourage children to
read anything they can get
their hands on, street
signs, menus, recipes and
books are all great tools to
strengthen children's
reading skills.
4. Set an example. Let
your kids see you read so
they know that reading is
important. Encourage
them to talk about and
describe their daily activi-
ties. And most of all, turn
off the TV!
5. Join the Reading
Club. Help children discov-
er their passion for read-
ing by visiting your local
library and signing up for
some summer fun.

three-storey home, designed for recreational property. The unfinished ground -floor area included in the plan has a separate entrance, making it ideal
for an in-law suite or even a bed -and -breakfast. On the main floor, the great room features a gas fireplace, as well as a dramatic double -height ceiling.
It blends into a spacious dining area, with easy access to the veranda. Off the dining room, an open kitchen has a raised eating bar for casual family
meals. Cooks will note the generous counter space, which wrap around three sides of the room. There's a window over the double sink, and a pantry is
located conveniently next to the fridge. Next to the foyer are a powder room and laundry room. A flight of stairs leads to the top floor, where three
bedrooms are arranged around the stairwell. There is a linen closet off the landing. Situated between the master bedroom and the smallest is a
bathroom. All three bedrooms feature windows on two sides. Colonial -style painted pillars and spindle railings accent the home's exterior. A handy
storage place for firewood is tucked underneath the outside stairs. This home is 46 feet wide and 46 feet deep, with a total of 1,378 square feet of
finished space. Plans for design H10.3.204 are available for $456 (set of 5), $522 (set of 8) and $564 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7 %
