Hurondale WI plan bake sale in July By Bev Campbell HURONDALE — Nine members of Hurondale WI travelled to Seaforth for their June meeting. The meeting was held at the Van Egmond House where a lovely summer- time lunch was served to the group. Following lunch, presi- dent Fern Dougall opened the meeting with a poem and the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect were recited. Plans were finalized for the bake sale being held on Thurs., July 14 during Exeter Sidewalk Sale Days. The WI district pic- nic is on Tues., July 5 in Grand Bend and a London Area Tweedsmuir work- shop is on Tues., Aug. 9 in Dashwood. After the business por- tion of the meeting was concluded, Pat Sundercock, curator, told the group the history of the Van Egmond House which was built in 1856. The Van Egmond family was of Dutch descent. They came to Canada when deeded land by the Canada Company, headed by A.T. Galt, for army ser- vices rendered in Europe. The last Van Egmond lived in the house until 1952 and in 1970 the Van Egmond Foundation took over the restoration of the house. The tour of the house is most interesting with the many artifacts and memo- rabilia on display. The tour ended with a beauti- fully restored piano being played by Gladys Van Egmond.
