OPP warning to students
By Stephanie Mandziuk
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — Keg parties are a recipe for disaster and
the OPP want to remind student party -goers they can
face stiff penalties if they host or attend one of the end
of school year bashes.
Police say party planners should keep in mind officers
are not going to cut them any slack if they are called to
parties raging out of control.
During an undercover operation last November, OPP
and officers with the Alcohol & Gaming Commission
broke up a party and seized five, 58 -litre kegs of beer.
Numerous charges were laid and the property owner
was not exempt.
The illegal sale of liquor and/or drugs is quite common
at large parties; so are other criminal acts including
sexual assaults, assaults, theft and mischief.
In worst case scenarios, personal injury and/or death
can occur. This can lead to criminal and civil litigation
affecting everyone involved in the planning of the party.
OPP say the message is simple: "Be a leader and not a
statistic."
