Belle's beauty intoxicates the Beast
By Stephanie Mandziuk
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
GRAND BEND — A
magical evening filled
with orchestral music,
lavish costumes and
heart -stopping excite-
ment creates the per-
fect setting for a
classic fairy tale
brought to life.
The final cur-
tain will fall on
"Beauty and the
Beast", at the
Huron Country
Playhouse, July
2.
It's a spectac-
ular production
and everyone
involved
deserves credit.
Opening night, June 3,
was shrouded with
tragedy when veteran
actor Terry Doyle suf-
fered a fatal heart
attack fifteen minutes
into the performance.
Sandy Winsby, who
had two days to get
acquainted with the
role, stepped in and did
a fine job as Belle's
father Maurice, given
the trying circum-
stances.
As far as the "tale as
old as time goes," a
handsome prince
turned into a hideous
beast because of a
curse, takes refuge in a
castle. To break the
spell, he must find true
love and be loved in
return before the last
petal falls off a magical
rose.
A young woman
named Belle ends up in
the Beasts' castle, in
exchange for her
father's freedom. It
seems Papa mistakenly
ended up in the wrong
place at the wrong
time, becoming a pris-
oner.

ance.
Most of us know the
outcome of this fairy-
tale but just in case — I
won't give it away!
As the musical begins,
the stage has been
transformed into a
small provincial French
village. As the scenes
change, so do the spec-
tacular backdrops. At
one point a revolving
staircase appears.
The choreography in
this production is out-
standing not to be out-
done by the singing.
Karen Coughlin, as
Belle, is a feisty country
girl who has a vora-
cious appetite for read-
ing.
David Ludwig, the
Beast, appears fierce
and strong but at the
same time exhibits a
kinder, gentler side.
Jay Davis, as Belle's
suitor Gaston, is best
described by the Carly
Simon song, "You're so
vain."
Show stealers include
Keith Savage as
Lumiere, the French
candlestick, Tristan
Rea as Chip, the
adorable little teacup
and Donna Fletcher as
Mrs. Potts who charms
the audience with her
rendition of the theme
song, "Beauty and the
Beast."
The production trans-
forms the audience into
a fantasy world. No

and no e-mails — a

CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR
BAYFIELD WATER SUPPLY STORAGE FACILITY
NOTICE OF STUDY COMMENCEMENT AND
PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE
The Municipality of Bluewater is carrying out a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process to
investigate options for constructing a water storage facility that will be connected to the lakeshore water
pipeline in the Bayfield area. This project is identified in the Bayfield Service Area Water Supply Master
Plan and is required to maintain water pressures in the system, provide equalization and emergency
storage, and fire protection. The project is one of a number of projects that will facilitate the extension of
water service throughout Bayfield and adjacent areas, as outlined in the Master Plan. The Master Plan
was completed in the fall of 2004 and can be viewed at the municipal website:
http://www.town.bluewater.on.ca/
The water storage facility is being planned under Schedule B of the Class EA as an activity subject to a
screening process. The purpose of the screening process is to identify a location for the facility and define
any potential environmental impacts and mitigation. Public consultation is a component of the screening
process. At this time, a general study area for the proposed facility has been established (refer to the
accompanying key plan).
A Public Information Centre is planned to provide further information to the public on study
investigations, including potential facility locations, and to receive input from interested persons.
