(photos/Stephanie Mandziuk) Tripping with Grand Bend WI GRAND BEND — On June 16 members and friends of the Grand Bend Women's Institute (WI) travelled to Grand River Country to enjoy the Grand River dinner cruise. The group boarded a coach at 8 a.m. and soon arrived in Caledonia, Ontario. The day began at Grand River Cruise with complimentary coffee and an opportunity to shop in the craft shop. Next, everyone enjoyed an interesting audiovisual presentation about the ori- gin of the Grand River. It showed how the river begins at the Luther Marsh and continues south. Many tributaries and smaller rivers emerge and form the Grand River. A live music show fea- turing three talented vio- linists kept spirits up and toes tapping. Then all embarked on a three-hour cruise featuring a sumptu- ous three -course roast beef lunch. During the cruise the captain gave an informa- tive commentary. All pre- sent heard about the life story of poet Pauline Johnson. The amusing story of the bridge construction was also told. A strolling musi- cian played favourite songs. The scenery along the shore was very peace- ful and beautiful. Refreshments were served before returning to the dock. Before departing for home a stop at Walters Nursery at Paris provided an opportunity to view flowers, plants and herbs. The day was greatly enjoyed. The next bus trip is to the Quilts, Quills and Teddy Bear show on Sept. 17 at the International Centre. Anyone interested in joining this day trip please call Cass Lovie 238- 2727 by Aug. 1. The women were reminded of the district picnic on July 5 at the pavilion behind the fire hall.
