Rain improves local
soil conditions
By Stephanie Mandziuk

EXETER — For the most part soil conditions
throughout Central and South Huron are good
thanks to recent rainfall.
Nick Whyte, President of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture, says up to two weeks
ago conditions were uncomfortably dry for most
farmers.
Whyte says corn is looking good and so are no -
till soybean crops which were showing signs of
drought.
Whyte adds, some farmers have been
waiting for this rain to pass so they can
begin planting white beans when soil
conditions are just right.
Unfortunately other areas, like
Dashwood, have received too much rain
causing flash flooding. Whyte says -
when you get high temperatures and
high humidity, you can expect severe weather to
takes its toll.
