Add your voice to June 21 hymn sing at Exeter UC

THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT
THAMES ROAD — The June meeting of the United
Church Women (UCW) was held on Tuesday evening,
June 14 in the church basement. The autographed cloth
was placed on the meeting table, as well as a vase filled
with beautiful flowers.
President Carolyn Johns opened the business part of
the meeting with a reading, "A Letter to God." Everyone
repeated the UCW Purpose.
Secretary Diane Jeffery took the roll call
which was answered by: Name a country
with a need for Mission and Outreach.
Minutes of the previous meeting was read.
Correspondence was dealt with.
Reception
There will be a reception for Jean Hodgert as chaplain
of the Rebekah Assembly Lodge of Ontario June 29, 7 to
9 p.m. at Exeter United Church.
Sharon Lynn gave the treasurer's report. Jeffery gave
the Mission and Outreach report. Helen Webber gave
the Stewardship and Finance report. It was reported we
fed 572 people at the strawberry and ham supper.
Judith Parker gave the council report stating that on
June 26 our church will meet, along with Caven
Presbyterian Church and Exeter United Church, at
MacNaughton Park.
July 3 the worship committee will look after the
church service at 10 a.m. For the month of August,
there will be no services due to holidays.
It was decided we would cater the Rebekah Lodge
banquet on Oct. 19 at our church. The Mission and
Outreach committee took charge of the meeting.
Jeffery then opened the worship service with a read-
ing, "Walking With God." The women sang, "0 Master
Let Me Walk With Thee," accompanied by the pianist
Marjorie Johns.
Muriel Parsons read from Genesis 4:1-9 and 1 John
3:11-18. Jeffery read, "Am I My Brothers' and Sisters'
Keeper." Grace Pym and Parsons presented a dialogue,
"Apology to our Brothers and Sisters."
Jeffery and Parsons received the offering with prayer
by Pym. The women sang, "0 Jesus I have Promised."
Pym read, "A Little Boy Asking About an Angel." Pym
and Marilyn Vandenbussche sang, "All Through the
Night," which was much enjoyed.
Guest speaker
Pym introduced Jean Bennett of Bayfield. Bennett
spoke and showed pictures of four different trips to
Uganda, Honduras, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and also
about bed kits which cost $30. She spoke about the 43
years of UCW and "Sleeping Children Around the
World."
Jeffery thanked Bennett and pre-
sented her with an envelope. Johns
thanked everyone as well as the lunch committee: June
Stewart, Janet Coward, Helen Webber and Sandra
Rowe. Everyone repeated the UCW Prayer.
Sandwiches, relishes, hot and cold beverage were par-
taken of by 24 women and one guest which brought a
very enjoyable evening to a close.
Church service
Dave Williams was in charge of the Father's Day
church service on Sunday morning.
The Introit was sung and Williams lit the Christ candle,
people shook hands and Williams gave the welcome and
announcements. The call to worship was read as well as
the gathering prayer.
"Great is Thy Faithfulness" was sung. The affirmation
of faith, "A New Creed" was read in unison. The chil-
dren's hymn, "Teach Me God to Wonder" was sung.
Williams told the children's story, "Big Hands," and
"Praying."
The choir sang, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus"
with variations accompanied by pianist Jean Hodgert.
Psalm 86:1-10, 16, 17 was read. Williams read Genesis
21:8-21 and the title of his Sunday message was "Sacred
Teachings."
"Take My Life and Let It Be" was sung.
Judith Parker and Virginia Warwick received the
offering as well as being the greeters.
"Blest Be the Tie That Binds" was sung. Williams gave
the commissioning and pronounced the benediction.

Child Find keeps children safe

EXETER — Parents had
another way to keep their
children a little
safer June 18 in
Exeter when Child
Find Ontario con-
ducted a finger-
printing session at
the Edward Jones
office.
On hand from
Child Find were
Gerri Long and
Christine Clements
to conduct the fin-
ger printing.
It's the first time
for Child Find in Exeter in
five years, said Long.
Thirty four children
were fingerprinted during
the day.
The session was set up
by Edward Jones Exeter
owner Mark Hartman,
who said it "just gives
information for parents if
anything happens."

offered up to age 16, after

are legally able to
make their own
decision.
She added when
newborns are
done, it is the feet

planning for three years.

also donated $200 to Child
Find Ontario.

Announcements
June 21: Shower for Tracy Taylor at the church start-
ing at 7:30 p.m. Bring sandwiches or squares for lunch.
June 21: You are invited to Exeter UC for a hymn sing
from the "More Voices United" which is in addition to
our current hymn book. Come out and learn some of the
new hymns at 7 p.m.
June 26: Thames Road-Elimville UC will meet at
MacNaughton Park for worship service which will
include other churches and will be followed by a potluck
picnic lunch. Bring lawn chairs and picnic lunch and
utensils. Service starts at 10:30 a.m.
There will be a hymn sing at the beginning of the
church service on July 3. If you have a favourite hymn,
please write it down and place on the offering plate.
July 3: Dave Williams will be away and the worship
committee will be leading the worship service.
July 21: UCW special event. Dinner and theatre at
Blyth. For all those who have indicated they would be
attending please have your money to one of the follow-
ing people by June 19: Helen Weston, Marjorie Johns,
Melonie Miller, Jean Hodgert.
Sept. 10: The finance committee is planning the sec-
ond annual golf and barbecue fundraiser at the Exeter
Golf Course; $40 includes green fees and all -you -can -eat
barbecue. Barbecue only: $15. Invite your friends and
relatives, everyone is welcome. Contact Marilyn
Vandenbussche, Rick Parker or Pat Ballantyne.
Personals
Robert and Ethel Campbell of Scotland visited last
week with Jim and Helen Weston.
Emil Albrecht of New Orleans is staying with Rick and
Karen Etherington for the summer while working at Ice
Cultures with Rick in Hensall.
Kim Riehl of Miami, Florida is visiting with her parents
Gerry and Elda Riehl of Exeter for two weeks.
Sympathy extended
Sympathy of the community is extended to Ken
Simpson and family and to Fleming and Doris Simpson
and family in the passing of the late Ruby Simpson.
Sympathy of the community is extended to Jean Sharp
in the passing of her grandson Frederick Royden
Bennetto Sharp and to her daughter Jennifer Sharp and
Roy Bennetto in the loss of their son. The Sharps used to
live in this community.
Sympathy is extended to the Rowe families in the pass-
ing of their uncle, the late Elmer Rowe.
Welcome
We welcome Kase and Marion Kemmere and family to
the community, the former Dennis Pym farm. They
came from the southern part of the Netherlands.
Calvin and Val Rohde of Zurich brought dinner to their
parents' home Bill and Rhoda Rohde for Father's Day
and then we were supper guests with Glenn and mari-
lyn Rohde as well as Jason and Tammy Steinbach of
Mitchell.

WATER RESTRICTIONS
To conserve water, the Bluewater
Public Works Department has found it
necessary to impose water restrictions on all
municipal owned water systems.
Effective July I and until October Is
the following schedule for the use of
watering will be permitted for Residential
customers (households).
The watering of flower beds and
gardens with a hand-held hose is
permitted on any day.The watering of
anything else with a hand-held hose or any other
device is restricted to the following dates.
Odd -numbered houses on
odd -numbered calendar days from
7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Even -numbered houses on
even -numbered calendar days
from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
The last digit of your house or 911 number
determines if your property (house) is odd or
even.These regulations are necessary to provide
an adequate supply of water.
Special permission may be obtained
to establish a new lawn.
