Precursor to "Run
for the Cure"
Breast cancer survivors cross the finish line in a
weekend photo shoot in Exeter promoting the "Run
for the Cure." The October scene will be featured
in a fundraising calendar spearheaded by the Pink
Ribbon Girls. Money raised will be donated to the
Breast Cancer Foundation. Calendars go on sale in
the fall. Donations can be made to the calendar
committee by calling Sid Reaburn at 262-3234 or

Fishing, food and
fellowship

GRANTON CORRESPONDENT
GRANTON — The annual chicken barbecue spon-
sored by Woodham United Church at the Kirkton-
Woodham Community centre on June 8 was well
attended as usual.
At Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., June 12,
Lay Pastor Val Hodgins led the service and the mes-
sage was entitled "Follow Me." The Scripture lesson
was from Matthew 9.
Meredith Dodds lit the
Christ candle. The ministry
of music was "His Eye is on the Sparrow."
Following the service, fishing, food and fellowship
was enjoyed at Lee Evans' pond on Hwy 7.
The beef dinner in the park is coming up on June
15.
UCW news
Granton -Wesley UCW Unit 3 met at Ruth Cook's
home June 7 at 7 p.m. for supper served by hostess
Ruth and Donna Westman. Seventeen members were
in attendance. Ruth and Donna led the program with
the theme "Friendship" and the value of a friend. The
Scripture reading from John 5:12-19 was followed by
the hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
A reading "Bless your Friend" was shared and a
meditation based on the Scripture. Ruth closed the
program with "Friendship is a special gift" and dedi-
cated it to Lay Pastor Hodgins, as it was her last offi-
cial meeting with Unit 3.
Hodgins was then presented with a lovely orchid
floral arrangement and thanked by Irene Richardson
for her friendship and fellowship over the last seven
years.
President Richardson led the business which includ-
ed discussion and planning for various upcoming
events, a busy spring and summer season ahead. The
meeting was closed with a prayer by Hodgins
At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun.,
June 12, Christine Downey led the service of morning
prayer assisted by Rev. Dalice Sim.
The message was about being by God to show His
love in the community. Becky Hawkins read the
lessons.
Clandeboye WI
Members and friends of Clandeboye Women's
Institute (WI) met at St. James Parish hall on Tuesday
evening, June 7.
Ron Simpson of Lucan was the guest speaker who
told of his experiences having had a liver transplant.
Carolyn Hardy was the program convener and read
"An Obituary of Common Sense" and a poem "Let life
Go to Remember Me." She also had a number of
humorous quotes and read a story "We have only Just
Begun." President Betty McIntyre chaired the meet-
ing.
Gladys Cunningham and Irene Lynn served refresh-
ments during the social time which followed.
