It is designed big enough to hold the equivalent of a "50 -year storm" and will benefit the entire southern por- tion of Exeter. The holding area will remain dry except during heavy rainstorms and will be 1.5 metres deep at its deepest level. It will also be tapered with a 1.5 metre high berm around it.The approximately $800,000 project, funded by the Exeter Community Development Fund, is slated to be finished in late September. This was my second Relay for Life - the first one being in Goderich last year. The Relay for Life in Goderich is largely sponsored by corporate donations and, while it is impressive in its size, nothing can compare to the incredible l experience of participating in the event this year in Exeter. This community needs to recognize the talented and energetic students and teachers at South Huron District High School. We need to pat ourselves on the back for our generous businesses and people who made up the 21 teams which made this event a huge success! From the delicious Survivors' meal to the sold -out luminaries; the Lions Club food booth to the warm-up exercises; the free massages to the hourly events throughout the night; the Survivors Victory lap to the shoring of locks in the wee hours of the morning and the band and the disc jockey - this was an incredible night. But much more, we need to continue to sup- port events such as these. As I walked the track that night, I was so moved by the number of names I recognized of people that have had their lives touched by cancer... the families that have lost loves ones... the families that have sup- ported loved ones throughout their battle and the families that con- tinue to pray that their loved ones will survive. Thank you to the high school students and teachers, the community members and the busi- Letters to the ti Editor nesses who gave so gen- erously of your time and money - you are all very special.
