(photo/Pat Bolen) By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF HENSALL — The 2005 Hensall Fair will see four contestants com- peting for the title of fair ambassador, which will be awarded Friday night at the Hensall Arena. Julie -Ann Bibby, 17 is a South Huron District High School student from Crediton and is the daughter of Tammy and Steve Bibby. Bibby has one more year of high school after which she is plan- ning to attend college, and is considering studying social sci- ences. She is sponsored by Kenpal Farm Products Inc. of Centralia. A r t e m y s i a Fragiskatos, 17, is a Hensall resident and a student at SHDHS. She is the daughter of Jayne and Nick Fragiskatos. Fragiskatos works at Hensall Major Appliances and is plan- ning on a fifth year of high school. She plans on studying English as a Second Language, possibly at the University of Western Ontario. Her sponsor is Hensall Major Appliance Centre. Shawnn Forrester, 18, of Hensall is a SHDHS student and is planning on studying graphic design. She is the daughter of Jack Forrester and Kathy Lawrence. Her sponsor is the Little Pizzeria in Hensall. Jody Parsons, 19, of Exeter is a SHDHS stu- dent and the daughter of Cathy Parsons and the late Fred Parsons. She works at the Little Pizzeria in Hensall as well as the Times - Advocate and is plan- ning on studying graph- ic design in Brantford. Her sponsor is Rowcliffe Trucking of Hensall. Lindsay Allen, the 2004 fair ambassador, said it has been a fun and informative experi- ence. M. Lucky Girl went wire to wire to win the $47,900 final City of London pacing series in 1:58, two for owners Max Bilyea, Jim McCarthy, both of Granton, and Jim Kelly of Ilderton. J. M. Lucky Girl has com- piled a record of three wins, two seconds and a third-place finish in seven lifetime starts and taken a mark of 1:57.2. She was raised and sold by Seelster Farms of Lucan. She is trained by Ray Bunn and driven to victory by Michael Sumner. With Friday night's win J. M. Lucky Girl has pushed her seasonal earning to over $34,600. Sympathy is extended from the Granton community to the family of Olive Hodgins (Percy) of St. Marys and formerly of Granton, who died suddenly at St. Marys Memorial Hospital on May 30 in her 87th year. The funeral service was held in St. James Anglican Church, St. Marys on Thurs., June 2, with Rev. Dr. Dalice Sim officiating. Interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. At the Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., June 5, the 80th Anniversary of Church Union was cel- ebrated. Lay Pastor Val Hodgins led the service and the message was enti- tled "80 Years." The lessons were from Genesis 12 and Matthew 9. Mary Waters gave the minute for mission and Emily Young lit the Christ candle. The min- istry of music was entitled "Heaven Came Down." GRAN Unit 3 hosted the muffin social before the service. The fishing derby will be held next Sun., June 12, following the church service Granton -Wesley United Church UCW Unit 1 met at Wildwood Care Centre in St. Marys on Thursday afternoon, June 2 with 14 in atten- dance. President Doreen McRobert opened the meeting with a reading "She was real grumpy." Plans were made for the September meeting at Becky Kindree's home. Business discussion included the beef supper in the park on June 15 and other upcoming events. In conclusion, Madeline Hardie had one of her mind teasers which tested everyone's skills. Kindree was the secretary in the absence of Cathie Westman. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., June 5, the 143rd anniversary of the church was observed. Christine Downey led the service and Rev. Dalice Sim celebrat- ed the Holy Eucharist. The message was about needing Jesus every day. Kathy Blackler read the lessons. The anthem by the choir was "As Comes the Breath of Spring" with solo part by Sarah Blackler. Flowers at the altar were given to the glory of God and in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Humphreys and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Humphrey by their family.
