Total Receipts 3,028 head of cattle, 599 lambs and goats. Summary Tuesday: The fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. Choice steers and heifers sold 88 to 93 sales to 98.25, second cut steers and heifers sold 83 to 87. The cows also traded on a steady market. Thursday: The veal sold on a strong active trade with prices $2 to $5 higher. All lambs sold actively with prices steady to last week. Friday: The calves sold at prices $2 to $4 higher with the yearlings trading on an active market. Steers There were 648 steers on offer. D. M. McAlpine Farms, Ailsa Craig consigned four limo steers averaging 1479 lbs which sold for 95. Their overall offering of seventy steers averaged 1554 lbs sell- ing for an average price of 89.16. Eighteen char steers con- signed by Martin H. Bauman, Millbank averaged 1413 lbs selling for an average price of 91.58 with sales to 94.50. Tom Bender, Kippen con- signed one limo steer weigh- ing 1075 lbs which sold for 93.25. Heifers There were 315 heifers on offer. Andy VanderVeen, Blyth consigned 11 limo heifers averaging 1217 lbs which sold for an average price of 89.48 with sales to 98.25. Nine heifers consigned by James Frey, Chesley aver- aged 1403 lbs selling for an average price of 91.19 with his top two limo heifers aver- aging 1473 lbs selling for 96.50. K.C. McAlpine Farms, Ailsa Craig consigned five limo heifers averaging 1295 lbs which sold for 90.75. Their overall offering of 13 heifers averaged 1287 lbs selling for an average price of 88.30. Cows There were 220 cows on offer. D1 and D2: 25-35 sales to 47; D3: 20-25; D4: 10-20. Jim Rapson, Walton con- signed one limo cow weigh- ing 1530 lbs which sold for 47. One limo cow consigned by Wes Stroeder, Harriston weighed 1390 lbs selling for 39.50. Paul Smith, Atwood con- signed one black cow weigh- ing 1450 lbs which sold for 39.50. Bulls There were 12 bulls on offer selling 24.50 to 40 sales to 48.50. Ed Husk, Kincardine con- signed one char bull weigh- ing 1755 lbs which sold for 48.50. One limo bull consigned by Murray Switzer, St. Marys weighed 2245 lbs which sold to Levinoff Meat Products for 35. Veal There were 171 head of veal on offer. Beef: 100-110 Steady prices in Denfield DENFIELD — The mar- ket at Denfield Livestock Sales traded on a good demand at fully steady prices on all classes of fed cattle. A good offer- ing of cows sold steady and a good offering of stockers sold strong. Holstein bull calves were strong. Sows and boars higher. Ross and Henry Duff, Croton sold 11 steers average weight 1408, average price 92.87 with sales to 97.25 purchased by Norval Meats. Morley Hodgins, Parkhill sold 21 steers average weight 1430, average price 86.06, sales to 89.25 purchased by Norval Meats. Glenn Kirkland, Southampton sold 18 heifers average weight 1222, average price 86.49 sales to 89.50. Jim Scott, Lucan sold 33 heifers average weight 1203, average price 84.78 with sales to 91. David and Glenn Minnielly, Wyoming sold six heifers average weight 1247, average price 83.93. Choice steers: 90-95, sales to 97.25; Good steers: 84-88; Plain steers: 70-80; Choice exotic cross heifers: 90- 95; Good heifers: 84-88; Plain heifers: 60-70; Good fed cows: 35-45; D1 and D2 cows: 27-32; D3 and D4 cows: 20-25; Shells: 10-15; Good beef bulls: 35-54; Good Holstein bulls: 28-34; Good Holstein bull calves: $165-$265; Good sows: 50-53. Their overall offering of six beef veal calves averaged 658 lbs selling for an average price of 93.59. One gold veal steer con- signed by Lloyd Kuepfer, Kincardine weighed 695 lbs selling for 117. His overall offering of nine beef veal calves averaged 702 lbs sell- ing for an average price of 94.44. Lambs under 50 lbs: 120-145; 50- 65 lbs: 132-164; 65-80 lbs: 142-164; 80-95 lbs: 152-168; 95-110 lbs: 153-159; 110 lbs and over: n/a. Sheep 45-67 Goats not enough to establish market.
