Church member receives certificate

SAINTSBURY — Hugh and Hazel
called on Rev. Stanley and Liz Jay
recently at their home in Mitchell.
On Wednesday evening Hazel
visited St. James Anglican Church
in St. Marys to pay
respects to the family
of the late Olive
Hodgins who passed away May
30.
The funeral service was held
Thurs., June 2 from the church
with the Rev. Dr. Dalice Sim offici-
ating. Funeral arrangements were
entrusted to the C. Haskett and
Son Funeral Home in Lucan.
St. Patrick's was decorated with
baskets of potted plants and
spring flowers as the congregation
welcomed visitors and friends to
their 145th anniversary service.
The Rev. Stanley Jay was offi-
ciant and preacher for the Holy
Eucharist and the Thanksgiving
on the Anniversary of a Parish
Service.
Processional hymn was "The
Church is One Foundation." Rev.
Jay was assisted by Bob
MacGillivray, Crystal Ellerington,
Margaret Carroll, Suzanne Davis
and Caleb MacGillivray led in
scriptures and special prayers.
Courtney MacGillivray was lay
assistant to Rev. Jay and was
thanked for her dedication to her
church and for the assistance she
has provided at St. Patrick's and
good wishes as she
begins her new
career at Midland

Hazel Davis had the wonderful
privilege to present Viola Atkinson
with a framed certificate honour-
ing her on her 65 years as a mem-
ber of St. Patrick's and her faithful
work with W.A. Guild and now
ACW.
Atkinson has certainly been a
valued member; her daughter
Shirley Kemps, sister Shirley
McAlpine and great-grandson
Zackery Kemps were at St.
Patrick's for the special occasion.
Service closed with recessional
hymn, "Faith of Our Fathers."
Following the service everyone
gathered in the Racey Memorial
Hall for a time of fellowship and
refreshments. A perfect ending for
a special service. A photo of the
presentation will be in Huron
Church News in the fall.
Ron and Margaret Carroll and
granddaughter Michelle Iredale
were recent lunch guests with
cousin Edythe Mugford of St.
Marys.
On the weekend Matthew Iredale
and Michelle joined grandparents
for service at St. Patrick's and the
afternoon at the Carroll home.
Sunday afternoon Courtney
MacGillivray attended a bridal
shower for girlfriend Terri -Ann
Dobbie of Lucan whose wedding
takes place in August.
Hazel Davis along with a number
of relatives and friends attended
the bridal shower on Sunday
afternoon honouring Jill Van
Heukelom (whose marriage to
Dan Maguire takes place in
September), hosted by Mary and
Leeann Maguire held at the
Maguire home.

Last call for strawberry
supper tickets

THAMES ROAD — Dave Williams was in charge
of the celebration of 80 years of United Church of
Canada church service on Sunday morning.
The Introit was sung and Corey Smith lit the
Christ candle. Williams gave the welcome and the
Passing of the Peace was passed by people shak-
ing hands.
Williams gave the announcements and Sharon
Lynn gave a Minute for Council. Williams led in
the Call to Worship and the Gathering Prayer.
The hymn, "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling"
was sung. Affirmation of Our Faith, "A New
Creed" was read in unison. The children's hymn
was "I've Got Peace Like a River" and Williams
told the children a story of forgiveness. The choir
sang "I Walk with the King," accompanied by
organist Jean Hodgert.
Psalm 33:1-12 was read. Williams read the
Scripture: Romans 4:13-25 and the title of his
message was, "When It All Seems Hopeless." The
hymn, "I Heard the Voice of Jesus" was sung.
Joan Skinner gave a minute for mission entitled,
"A Letter From Lori Stewart and Paul Hagerman."
Karen Etherington and Helen Weston received
the offering, Etherington was the greeter and
Skinner took an item forward for the food bank.
The closing hymn, "The Church's One
Foundation," was sung.
Williams gave the commissioning and pro-
nounced the benediction. Everyone sang the clos-
ing chorus.

The Outreach Committee from council is looking
for volunteers for the Out of the Cold program on
June 20 and Aug. 22. If you are able to help,
please contact Joan Skinner at 229-6295.

during our worship service led by Rev. Harry
Disher.
June 12: Our strawberry and ham supper at
South Huron Rec Centre from 5 to 7 p.m. Advance
tickets only. Adults $10, Children five to 12 years
$5. Last day to buy tickets is June 8. Contact any-
one on church council for tickets.
June 14: UCW meeting at 8 p.m. Program:
Mission and Outreach. Diane Jeffery, Grace Pym,

need for Mission and Outreach. Lunch: June

June 21: Shower for Tracy Taylor at the church
starting at 7:30 p.m. Bring sandwiches or squares
for lunch.
June 26: Thames Road-Elimville and other
churches will meet at MacNaughton Park for the
service and then a potluck picnic lunch will be
partaken of.
Sept. 10: The finance committee is planning the
second annual golf and BBQ fundraiser at the
Exeter Golf Course; $40 includes green fees and
all -you -can -eat BBQ. BBQ only $15. Invite your
friends and relatives, everyone is welcome.

mother, Margaret Stewart for a week.
About 50 descendants of John Cann and Mary
Catherine Passmore enjoyed their second picnic
on Sat., June 4, the 110th wedding anniversary of
our grandparents.
Roy Merkley and Margaret Love of Grand Bend
welcomed everyone to a potluck smorgasbord lun-
cheon with lots of visiting and picture taking in
the afternoon. Families of five branches were pre-
sent: Roxie, Reta, Pearl, Robert and Carman,
William has no descendants.
John and Isabelle McLauchlan, Viola Hewitt of
London, Mary Gartenburg of Kingston, Norman
Shier of Toronto, Jean Scott of Stratford, George
Raycraft of Moncton, Clarence and Isabel
Thomson of Woodham, Murray and Louise Shier
of Kirkton, Glenn and Dorothy Jeffery and Bill and
Rhoda Rohde attended the Hanna cousins' picnic
at Kirkton United Church for a noon meal on
Saturday.
Norman Shier and Bill Rohde played the piano
and violin for part of the afternoon, we visited and
reminisced. Viola Hewitt was the hostess.
