NOW ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS
Stan Lee Club to meet June 8
By Joan Beierling
VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA — A community bridal show-
er was held in honour of Heather Laurie
last Thursday evening at the Complex.
Women enjoyed dessert and refresh-
ments and then Elly Van Bergen wel-
comed everyone and told a few humor-
ous jokes.
Van Bergen then introduced the
"Varna Idol" to everyone. Varna Idol #1
was Amanda Taylor playing the piano;
#2 Brenda Consitt as Brenda William
Hung; #3 Miranda Postill singing; #4
Sjoujke Steenbeek acting as Cam Laurie
on the drums; #5 Alyssa Taylor playing
the piano; #6 Aleisha Dowson singing;
#7 Bonnie Roy and Joan Beierling act-
ing as band members from the Seaforth
All Girls Marching Band in uniform.
Deb Rathwell was acting out Laurie
and playing the judge for the night. In
between performances, the phone calls
were coming in from different family
members of Laurie's with problems that
she was to fix but she was far too busy
judging the Varna Idol.
Once again this brought many laughs
and lots of memories for Laurie as she
and her family are very musically
inclined.
Robyn Taylor read an address to
Laurie; Laurie was the recipient of
many beautiful and useful gifts. Laurie
thanked everyone very graciously.
The Stan Lee Club will meet June 8 at
8 p.m. at the Varna Complex. Note
change of date.
The Varna United Church Women
will meet Thurs., June 2 at the church
at 8 p.m.
The Five Alive presented the "Faith
Story" at the Brucefield church on
Sunday which was very well attended.
There was lots of music and trumpets.
The Five Alive choir sang.
Following the dynamic, thought-pro-
voking and uplifting presentation, food
and fellowship was enjoyed.
The Five Alive served a 10th anniver-
sary cake as it has been 10 years since
the Five Alive (the five churches of
Brucefield, Kippen, Varna, Goshen and
Bayfield) formed. Happy anniversary to
Five Alive.
The offering from the service went to
Camp Menesetung.
Many from the Varna community
attended the buck and doe for Mary
Ellen Webster and Mark Finlayson on
Saturday night in Hensall.
Tickets are on sale for the Varna pork
BBQ to be held Wed., June 15 so mark
your calendar and plan to attend.
Church service will be in Varna this
Sun., June 5.
