cooking with memories
BY DEBBY WAGLER
EVERY SUMMER WE SPEND A LONG WEEKEND AT MY
BROTHER AND SISTER -IN-LAWS COTTAGE. IT IS A TIME OF
GREAT RELAXATION AND FUN COOKING. MEL AND I BOTH
LOVE TO EXPERIMENT AND WE HAVE BEEN WORKING AT
PERFECTING THE PERFECT SPARERIB BBQ SAUCE. THE LAST
TIME I MADE SPARERIBS AT HOME I CAREFULLY WROTE OUT
THE INGREDIENTS SO I COULD SHARE OUR JOINT EFFORT
RECIPE WITH YOU.WITH SPARERIBS 1 FIND IT BEST TO BAKE
THEM IN A SLOW OVEN FIRST OR TO BOIL THEM TENDER SO
THAT YOU ARE JUST FINISHING THEM ON THE BBQ.
SPARERIB BONANZA
Take your spareribs and boil or bake them in one of the
following liquids:
pineapple juice, apple juice or beer with water.
(Boil about one hour or bake at 325 for about 2 hours)
Place the following ingredients in a small pan and bring to
a gentle boil:
1 cup Diana's Honey Maple BBQ sauce
1/2 cup apple sauce
1 onion chopped fine
1 garlic clove mashed
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
Cool and then set aside a small portion for final basting. Put
all other marinade in a ziploc large sealed bag with the
spareribs. Let sit all day if possible. BBQ till nicely browned
using the reserved sauce for your final minutes on the grill. The
flavour from boiling the ribs in the liquid of your choice really
gives a nice taste to the meat. You can play with this recipe by
adding fresh herbs, chunks of apple and or pineapple, more
zippy spice etc. Have some fun!

Lifestyle modification is sometimes all that is
needed to keep blood pressure in check. These
changes include reducing alcohol intake,
increase fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet,
exercising 4-5 times weekly for an hour, stop
smoking, reduce weight and deal with the stress in your life. Even if
a drug is used, these lifestyle changes are still worthwhile.

If you are a bit hard of hearing let your pharmacist know this.
When you receive your medication, your pharmacist will counsel
you on important information you need to know about the drug. It's
important to hear it as well as read it.
There are dozens of toothpastes to choose from. Some contain
fluoride to harden the tooth enamel making them less prone to
cavities. Other ingredients may be strontium chloride to decrease
sensitivity to pain from heat, cold or touch. Sodium biphosphate
reduces tartar build-up but doesn't remove old tartar and triclosan
is an antiseptic to reduce bacteria causing gum disease.
