GoldenAgers euchre party May 23 at 7:30 p.m.

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - The Sacrament of Confirmation was
received by 53 Grade 7 and 8 students at St. Boniface
Church on May 10 with Mass by Bishop Fabbro, Father
John and Father Francis.
The students made a Rag Time Quilt as a project to
make money for the work of Brother Bob
Mittelholtz in India (in his memory). A total
of $506 was raised. Jane Bedard was the
winner of the quilt. A handbag was won by Martha Risi.
Sun., May 15 Father Julius, from India, was at St.
Boniface. He is now the director of Jesu Ashram
Hospital working with the sick and poor.
Following Mass, Cassie Groot presented Father Julius
with the cheque from the quilt draw. A social was held
downstairs prepared by the Catholic Women's League,
also a video of India and Brother Bob.
Get well wishes to Brent Steckle, son of Cam and
Cathy. Also to Rosie Rothenberg who is home recuperat-
ing from an operation.
A buck and doe was held for Corey Wildfong and
Lesley DeRooy May 14 at the Zurich Complex. The cou-
ple are being married in July.
A buck and doe was held for Gillian Masse and Jeremy
Willert May 14 in Hensall. Gillian is the daughter of Mike
Masse and Lori and Jeremy is the son of Jerry and
Joanne Willert of Hensall. The wedding is in August.
The Golden Agers euchre party is May 23, 7:30 p.m. at
the Hay Township Hall. Cost is $3 at the door with lunch
and prizes.
The Muffin Time Social at the United Church in Zurich
is cancelled for the summer months.
Ladies Bowling League
The Ladies Bowling League enjoyed an end of the year
dinner and awards night held in Exeter at Huron Family
Restaurant May 9. There was a good turnout. Sabrina
Oesch will be the president again next year, along with
executive Elaine Weido, Lorna and Donna Thiel.
Some of the women went back to the Town and
Country Lanes following the banquet to bowl. Thanks to
Barb and Larry.
The Hensall yard sale will be held on Sat., May 28.

Artists Show on Fri., May 27 at the Old
Arena in Zurich. This is the grand open-
ing for the Maverick Sports Centre. Tickets are $20 a
person at J & L Variety, Erb's Country Kitchen and Gas
Bar. The proceeds will go to the Bluewater Complex.

Music ForYoung Children
The Music For Young Children piano recital presented
by Aimee Rau and her students was well attended May
15. Students sang and played musical instruments.
Aimee also composed the theme song for Music For
Young Children that was chosen to be used by these
programs all over the world.
The Exeter Synchronized Masters Skating team held
an end of the season get-together Saturday at the home
of Carrie Eybergen in Grand Bend. A good time was had
by all.
A surprise 40th birthday party was held for Dwayne
LaPorte Saturday evening at the Hay Township Hall in
Zurich with family members, several relatives and
friends helping him to celebrate.
Fifty pink flamingos showed up by surprise on the
front lawn at the apartment of Lynn Alderdice last
Tues., May 10 to surprise her for this big birthday.

out the Perth Deanery.

Fordwich for the Perth
Deanery ACW spring
meeting, hosted by the
women of Trinity
Fordwich. There were 35
women signing the regis-
ter representing seven
churches from the dean-
ery of Perth.
Guest speaker was Rev.
Sharon Lohnes minister of
the United Church in
Fordwich and her friend
Marilyn King who had
recently returned from a
working trip to Nicaragua.
They worked on a school
and seniors' home and
also assisted at hospitals.
Nicaragua is the third
poorest country. The pic-
tures
certainly
showed
us how lucky we all are
here in Canada.
Offering was given to the
women to purchase needs
for the next trip being
organized for Fall. Service
closed with the Rev. Nancy
Beale leading the service.

On May 10, Ministry of
Transport inspectors and
OPP officers held a blitz on
Elginfield Road and
Highway 4.
Nineteen trucks were
inspected. Eight were
detained as unsafe and
placed out of service for
things like worn air lines,
brake problems and no
training certificates.
Police say eight charges
were laid. Three were for
overweight vehicles while
the rest pertained to dri-
ving with an expired annu-
al inspection and no per-
mit.

HURON COUNTY -
Officers in Huron County
stopped more than 8,350
vehicles during the spring
seatbelt campaign.
Seventy-four seatbelt
charges were laid. One
was related to a child car
seat and the rest were for
failing to wear a seatbelt.
Province -wide, about
636,00 vehicles were
checked and more than
9,500 child car seats
were inspected.
Police charged 9,110
people and laid an addi-
tional 194 child carseat
related charges.
Each charge means a
$110 fine and the driver
gets two demerit points.
