Conference Sunday service slated for May 29
By Rhoda Rohde
THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT
THAMES ROAD — The May meeting of the UCW was
held on Tuesday evening, May 10 in the church base-
ment with the Stewardship and Finance Committee in
charge.
The meeting table was covered with the autographed
tablecloth and a beautiful bouquet of daffodils. Marilyn
Pym welcomed everyone and gave the theme, "Thinking
About Stewardship."
Helen Webber introduced the guest speaker, Kelly
Campbell of Goderich who is with Women's Shelter,
Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services of
Huron.
Campbell provided much information and answered
many questions. She was thanked by Joan Skinner and
presented with a plant and a bag full of personal under-
clothing.
June Stewart and Skinner received the offering with
prayer by Pym.
A prayer was given by Webber. A reading, "My Perfect
Mother's Day, Then I Wakened Up," by Skinner was
quite humourous.
President Carolyn Johns welcomed everyone and
asked all to repeat the UCW Purpose. Diane Jeffery took
the roll call which was answered by, "What is Your
Favourite Charity?"
Minutes were read and adopted and correspondence
dealt with. Coming events are as follows: Westminster
weekend June 3,4, and 5; Summer events at Siloam
Church in July; a day at Campsite Menesetung June 13.

OFFICER
Employers/Homeowners:
Need summer help? Why not give a young person
the opportunity to gain work experience? HRCC-S
services provided for employers include posting
your job vacancies in our office and on our Internet
job bank, resume collection and access to informa-
tion about employment standards, health and safety
in the workplace, wage rates and Government of
Canada programs and services. For homeowners
— if you need temporary help with tasks you just
don't have time for, or simply aren't able to perform
yourself, look no further than our Odd Job Squad!
Visit or call your local HRCC-S for more informa-
tion.
Students:
Finding summer work can be one of the toughest
jobs around. It can mean hours of pounding the
pavement, scanning want ads and researching the
Internet. By visiting your local HRCC-S you can sim-
plify your search. At the HRCC-S, you can learn
more about how to find a job, how to write a
resume, and preparing for an interview. To get a
head start on your summer job search, here are
some tips:
• Visit the HRCC-S to touch up that resume.
• Check the Job Bank (www.jobbank.gc.ca) daily
as we are adding new jobs all the time.
• Search the classified ads of local newspapers. If
you come into our office you'll find job ads for nine
local newspapers.
• Watch for signs posted in windows of local busi-
nesses advertising help wanted.
• Drop resumes off at local businesses and let
them know you are looking for employment —many
jobs are not advertised at all.
• Network by telling friends and family you are
looking for a job.
• For those of you looking for casual employment,
lasting only a few hours or days, join the Odd Job
Squad.
Good luck to all the students looking for work this
summer!
